Old Elaborate Woodcut Or Linoleum Cut Bookplate 4" X 3 3/8" Stating"John Barrymore / Ex Libris" A Candle Above An Open Book At Center Trees And Dramatic Masks At Sides "J.B." Printed Initials In Small Letters At Bottom Apparently Engraved By Barrymore At A Time When Many Literary Persons Of Means Engraved Their Own Bookplates. With A Second Bookplate 4" X 2 7/8" Black Border Photo Of A 40-Ish H G Wells In Oval Below His Name In Full On Which There Is A Neatly Attached Printed Card With Original Signature Of Wells Below. Worn With One Tiny Point Of Fraying At Top Rear Spine Corner. Gilt Lettering Fairly Clear And Bright With A Tiny Loss To Part Of Publisher's Name At Base Of Spine All Letters Present Including "Ltd." At Base Of Spine. Hinges Expertly Repaired The Hinges And Endpapers Are Notoriously Fragile In This Book. There Is A 1 1/2" X 1/2" V-Chip At Foredge Of First Free Endpaper. Very Faint Dampstain Along Lower Edges Of Binding Noticeable Internally On Endpapers And Catalog At End. A Movie Association Copy As Barrymore Appeared In The Film "The Invisible Woman" In 1941.
