Interior pages are age toned with no other marks tears. Dust jacket silhouette title author are intact but chunks of it are missing at top edge bottom edge front and spine. Nevertheless it is held together nicely in mylar wraps. "Nana tells the story of Nana Coupeau's rise from streetwalker to high-class cocotte during the last three years of the French Second Empire." Zola details the conditions/times which impacted the choices of Nana's life. What is especially important about this copy are the silhouetted frontispiece and illustrations by Fred Mayer - revival of a form of art which had faded into the background with the popularity of photography - here they are wonderfully illustrative of people in actions - a forerunner to Kara Walkers currently popular works. Terminada en 1880 Nana es la novena entrega de la serie Les Rougon-Macquart de 20 vol�menes. Un a�o antes de que empezara a escribir a Nana Zola no sab�a nada sobre el Th��tre des Vari�t�s. Ludovic Hal�vy lo invit� a asistir a una opereta con �l all� el 15 de febrero de 1878 y lo llev� detr�s del escenario. Hal�vy le cont� innumerables historias sobre la vida amorosa de la estrella Anna Judic cuyo m�nage � trois sirvi� de modelo para las relaciones de Rose Mignon su esposo y Steiner en la novela de Zola. Hal�vy tambi�n le proporcion� a Zola historias sobre prostitutas famosas como Blanche d'Antigny Anna Deslions Delphine de Lizy y Hortense Schneider sobre las cuales Zola se inspir� en el desarrollo del personaje de su personaje principal. Nana cuenta la historia del ascenso de Nana Coupeau de prostituta callejera a prostituta de clase alta durante los �ltimos tres a�os del Segundo Imperio franc�s. Nana apareci� por primera vez cerca del final de la serie anterior de Zola Rougon-Macquart L'Assommoir 1877 donde es hija de un borracho abusivo.
