Sprague de Camp Nelson D. Bond Willy Ley Eric Frank Russell and Ross Rocklynne. Octavo twelve volumes 160pp. Each volume measures 6.5" x 9.5". Dates of each publication listed on cover spine and copyright page. All volumes in very good condition with hinges intact light wear to corners occasional losses to covers and spines. Covers are vibrantly illustrated by Howard V. Brown and Hans Waldemar Wessolowski Wesso. A unique set rarely seen covering a full year of publications. Launched in 1930 by editor John W. Campbell the Astounding Stories magazine became a pioneering force in the golden age of science fiction introducing readers to iconic tales and contributing significantly to the genre's evolution. Under Campbell's influential editorial guidance Astounding Stories featured works by renowned authors such as Isaac Asimov Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Orné de 20 eaux-fortes originales de Willy Eisenchitz, dont une vignette de titre, un frontispice hors-texte, 10 hors-texte et 8 dans le texte. Edition originale et premiet tirage. Il a été tiré 175 exemplaires sur Vélin antique. Exemplaire N° 34, entièrement colorié à la main par l'artiste, et certifié par Philippe Gonin dans une note manuscrite sous la justification du tirage. Bel exemplaire aux couleurs vives. Reliure contemporaine à la Bradel, en plein vélin crème vernis et marbré aux nuances d'un parchemin, dos aux titres en lettres capitales peintes et gerbes de blé aux épis bruns et réhaussés d'or, tête dorée. Etui bordé. Couvertures et dos conservés, en parfait état.‎

‎Né à Vienne, Willy Eisenschitz, fréquente les Beaux-Arts de la capitale autrichienne, avant de sinstaller à Paris en 1912 pour se perfectionner. A lAcadémie de la Grande Chaumière, il rencontre Claire Bertrand quil épousera en 1914. Elle aura sa propre carrière artistique et exposera à plusieurs reprises avec lui. Arrêté en 1914 comme sujet autrichien, il est détenu dans un camp dinternement. En 1917, il attrape la tuberculose ; pour raisons de santé, il est autorisé à quitter la France pour la Suisse où il fera plusieurs séjours dans des centres. Après la guerre, Willy Eisenschitz deécouvre la lumière du Midi lors dun voyage en 1921-1922 en Provence, sur la Côte dazur et sur la Riviera italienne. En 1923 il fait une rechute de tuberculose. Il sinstalle en 1927 avec sa famille dans la propriété des Minimes à La Valette-du-Var. La lumière du midi bouleverse sa vision et lui fait adopter une manière de peindre très personnelle. A la manière de Cézanne quil admire depuis ses débuts, sa peinture se situe alors entre lobjectivité du Cubisme et léphémère de lImpressionnisme. Il peint beaucoup de paysages de la région et sinvestit dans la vie culturelle et artistique. Honoré par de très nombreuses expositions et présent dans plusieurs collections publiques et privées en France et à létranger, Willy Eisenschitz est un peintre aujourdhui reconnu.‎
