‎L'ouvrage a été tiré à 300 exemplaires, signés par l'éditeur. Il comprend trois dessins hors-texte de L. Hamon, photographiés par d'Arnaud et Bertsch. Auguste Adolphe Bertsch (18?-1871) est constructeur opticien à Paris. Il est l'un des membres fondateurs de la S.F.P. en 1854, date à laquelle il collabore avec Camille d'Arnaud. Cet inventeur fécond améliore de nombreuses techniques : épreuve d'objets vus au microscope, prises de vue en 1/4 de seconde (1855). En 1856, il photographie une eclipse de la lune. En 1858, il est nommé Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, pour ses travaux photographiques appliqués aux sciences. L'année suivante, il invente le microscope héliographe, et dépose en 1860 un brevet pour deux chambres automatiques. Il a fait de nombreuses expositions à Paris et une à Bruxelles. Il a utilisé le collodion, le papier salé et le papier albuminé. Bel exemplaire en percaline éditeur. De la bibliothèque C.H.M., avec son ex-libris gravé. Vicaire, V, 774.‎
