The life of one of the world's most notable writers and one of the founders of realism in European literature Honore de Balzac 1799-1850 novelist and playwright. His magnum opus was a series of almost 100 novels collectively called "La Comedie Humaine" which provide a portrait of all aspects of French society in the years after Napoleon's fall in 1815. He is known for his very human and realistic characters. His biographer Stefan Zweig 1881-19420 was himself a prolific Austrian novelist and a playwright journalist and biographer quite popular in the 1920s and 1930s. A tight and solid book. Grey tweed cloth with red script HB on the front panel spine has red panel with grey and red titles. Clean with light wear to extremities. Small stamp on paste-down from a Senior Center and pocket on endpaper.
