Silver coloured cloth covered boards with purple and red coloured embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. Since the sacking of Rome by the Vandals the seven branched golden candelabrum from the Temple of Solomon; which itself had been taken to Rome when Jerusalem had been sacked; is now in the hands of Emperor Justinian in Constantinople. The last person to see and touch the candlestick as a young child is now 80 and Benjamin has been called upon by his people to attempt to return the candelabrum to Jerusalem. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges which also shows sunning. Bumping of the book corners with rubbing of the lower book edges. The book panel shows stains rubbing and a little sunning. Uniform tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. The top text block edge shows foxing. The book had been given as a bar mitzvah present dated 1949 by Temple Beth Israel Liberal Synagogue Melbourne � and ex libris plate fixed to the free front end page is present � the recipient's name has been scrubbed out with black marker. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. There is a small split to the front hinge 2 inches from the lower edge.
