A very good copy the binding square and firm with some light rubbing and bumping to the spine tips and corners. The contents somewhat spotted to the text block edge and prelims and a few pages with turned corners are entirely complete and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Publisher's catalogue dated Spring 1921 to the rear. The first of three novels involving Melian Stokes a character the pacifist and conscientious objector author based on Bertrand Russell. The Pugs and Peacocks in the title being familiar features of Ottoline Morrell's home Garsington Manor a centre of pacifist discussion and refuge for Bloomsbury Conscientious Objectors working on the land which thinly disguised provides one of the settings in the novel.
