‎In the mid-sixties, a young Belgian-American experimental/visual poet, Alain Arias-Misson, returned to his birthplace Brussels, which his family had fled during World War II for New York. Back in Brussels the poet initiated his well-known "public poems", which predate the genre performance and are all up to today different from one another and never repeated. For Arias-Misson, the street is the page upon which the poem can be drawn. The city can be construed as a text. It is a focal point of socio-political signs, and its syntax and semantics can be made "legible" by introducing highly graphic, linguistic and non-linguistic clues in the street. Arias-Misson's public poems are always specific to the urban setting, and to the political moment in which they were created. His poems are sometimes presented in dreamlike sequences, often provoking "public disorder" in cities throughout Europe as well as forays into New York and Los Angeles.‎

‎This publication investigates the individual works ascribed to the Master of Flemalle, presenting new conclusions regarding division of hands and dating. The group of paintings ascribed to the Master of Flemalle is one of the most outstanding and at the same time most enigmatic of early Netherlandish painting. Influential throughout the 15th century, these works are nowadays regarded, together with those of the Van Eyck brothers, as a starting point of Northern renaissance art. Ever since these paintings were grouped together a hundred years ago, on the grounds of stylistical analysis, they have been the object of controversial scholarly debates, concerning the identity of the artist and the coherence and homogeneity of the oeuvre. This publication presupposes neither the most newly assumed identification of the artist with Robert Campin of Tournai nor the homogeneity of the oeuvre. Instead, the investigation concentrates on the individual works, starting with the eponymous paintings in Frankfurt. Using the whole range of art historical methods and the results of technical investigations, the study presents new conclusions regarding division of hands and dating. Furthermore, the sometimes complex relations between different works are investigated. Another important result of the study is the reconstruction of now dismembered ensembles. In the course of the study, the Flemalle group turns out to be the work of several artists rather than the oeuvre of one master. There seem to be two major sub-groups which are connected with each other and which may even have come from one workshop. In the light of these findings, the study gives a new evaluation of the roles of Robert Campin and Rogier van der Weyden. Languages: German.‎

La composizione rappresenta l’allegoria della vittoria della saggezza sull’ignoranza. La saggezza è nelle sembianze di Minerva che ha un piede sull'ignoranza - un uomo con le orecchie d'asino, con le mani legate da una corda. Un putto la onora con una corona di alloro. Intorno a loro ci sono sette personificazioni delle sette arti libere: astronomia, musica, geometria, pittura, scultura e retorica, tra le altre. Sotto la rappresentazione c'è una didascalia latina di quattro righe che sottolinea che gli ignoranti sono incapaci di adorare le arti. Bibliografia Hollstein, XXI,115; Wurzbach 82. Magnificent proof, rich in tone, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed at the marginal line, perfectly executed restorations at the corners, traces of horizontal crease, otherwise in good condition. After the painting by Bartholomäus Spranger, around 1596, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Wien Wisdom is in the form of Minerva with one foot on ignorance, a man with donkey ears. A putto honors her with a laurel wreath. She has tied the hands of the man with a rope. Around them are seven personifications as a variation on the seven liberal arts: astronomy, music, geometry, painting, sculpture and rhetoric. ‎o.J. Folge von 5 Blatt Kupferstichen, 1606, auf Bütten, Blatt 3 mit Wasserzeichen: Lilienwappen und anhängendem HP (ligiert). Je ca. 26,1:36,6 cm. Literatur: Bartsch 2-6; Wurzbach 2-6 ; Hollstein 30, III (von III): mit Saenredams Adresse. Schöne kontrastreiche Drucke, meist knapp auf die Einfassungslinie geschnitten oder mit winzigem Rändchen um diese. - Kleine Fehlstellen und Einrisse sorgfältig restauriert, vertikale Falten geglättet.‎

‎Das Motiv, eines der fünf Parabeln aus dem Neuen Testament, ist in der christlichen Kunst seit dem 4. Jahrhundert nachweisbar, war aber besonders im Mittelalter populär. Die fünf klugen und die fünf törichten Jungfrauen sind in ihrer Gesamtheit seit dem 12. Jahrhundert vollplastisch an Kirchenportalen zu sehen, so an der Brauttür des Magdeburger Doms, an der Westfassade des Straßburger Münsters, am Westportal der Kathedralen von Amiens, Bourges, Notre-Dame in Paris, Reims, Sens, Auxerre und Laon. Die von Jesus angeführten klugen Jungfrauen werden lächelnd, die nachfolgenden törichten Jungfrauen hingegen mit verzweifelter Miene dargestellt; die einen rechts, die anderen links vom göttlichen Richter. Es geht um die Vorbereitung auf das Reich Gottes, und damit um den Unterschied zwischen Auserwählung und Verdammung. So symbolisieren die klugen Jungfrauen, die sich vorausschauend mit Öl für ihre Öllampen versorgt haben, die christliche Seele, die sich in fünffacher Weise tugendhaft Gott zuwendet; die törichten Jungfrauen hingegen, die zwar Öllampen haben, aber diese nicht nachfüllten, symbolisieren fünf Arten der fleischlichen Lust und Verdammnis. Die Aufmerksamkeit des Künstlers, der das Geschehen in fünf Szenen wiedergibt, gilt in gleichen Teilen den tugendhaften, sich auf den Bräutigam vorbereitenden Jungfrauen, wie auch dem frivolen, ausschweifenden und selbstsüchtigen Handeln der Törichten.‎
