Anonymous 1800 small quarto 22 manuscript pages on laid paper no watermark tied with ribbon not original through two of three slits front wrapper detached but present entitled: "In Eulogy on the life of General George Washington" Text somewhat worn upper right hand corners somewhat dogeared front wrapper worn and chipped rear wrap missing otherwise very good.</p><p>Apparently Unpublished Eulogy on Washington by a Military Man to his Fellow Soldiers.</p><p>This eulogy or oration written by an anonymous militia commander and likely read to his fellow "soldiers in arms" it extols the virtues of their fallen "Chieftain" on what would have been Washington's 68th birthday:</p><p>Sample of the Text:</p><p>"Countrymen & Fellow Citizens. Permit me by request your humble Eulogist to address you on this no less solemn than afflicting occasion.</p><p>The Parent of our rights the Guardian of our liberties the Saviour of our Country is no more. The illustrious Washington the accomplished Statesman the intrepid Veteran has discharged the demands of nature and rests in dust. This day sixty eight years past ushered the deceased into being.</p><p>How are the mighty fallen – Not as Saul and Jonathan in the field of Battle – but expired like Moses on Pisgah's Mount in the full vigour of age. …</p><p>The Hero of Monongahela witnessed to the world the same magnanimity of mind through the whole course of his life as he did at the moment when he saved a shattered army from impending ruin. And millions this day mourn the loss of their mighty Chieftain dead. … He conquered not like Alexander to enslave millions but to disseminate among them the rights and privileges of men. Like Cincinnatus he took the field but to silence the enemies of his Country & like him again retired to rural repose.</p><p>He was biased by no sinister motives but was entreated by the purest principles of friendship for his distressed Countrymen. The knew the worth of our Chief – to them his name was a host – this they were made sensible of even to a demonstration. … With what perfect composure did he command himself at that precarious moment when flying through the Jerseys with an handful of undisciplined Militia and they upon the point of deserting him giving up their Country for loss With a voice more than human he rallied their remains - Spoke and they obeyed – and set his Country free – It was here the Illustrious Chief turned the current of the American war and rolled the tide of its baneful effects upon an exulting foe glutted with success. …</p><p><em> Soldiers in arms </em></p><p><em> Permit me to consider with you on this trying occasion and with you to lament the loss of your guide in war and friend in peace. The honorable name of Soldier ought to involve in it every thing that is great and good. The deceased War worn General whose death you are now lamenting gloried in the epithet of Soldier. Although the ages of many of you put it out of your power to be acquainted with his noble exertions yet you are reaping the advantages which his noble soul aspired to. He in his life set you an example worthy the imitation of an Hannibal. By his intrepidity he has taught you to defy death – and when your Country calls his noble pattern has declared that your lives are not your own. When his demanded his attention he was the first to appear in the midst of danger and could not bear that a soiled tongue should couple with name of coward an American Veteran. If there are any in this assembly who were present when he unfurled the banners of Independence they will declare what a torrent of anxiety swelled his benevolent soul at that initial moment. The fate of your Country the lives of you Parents and your own existences depended on that momentous event. With diffidence and a reserved dignity which characterized him above his comrades in war he took the command of our forces. He organized into a regular army a raw although virtuous yeomanry He led them on to victory. He subdued the enemies of our Country and gave peace to our American climes. Whilst the tear of sensibility steals from your cheeks in commemoration of your departed Hero; Let this conflating plea sooth the pangs of grief that his happiness is now compleat. Let his virtue stimulate you like him when called upon to tread in the paths of glory and then you will receive the plaudits of your Countrymen and rest like him in eternal Bliss." </em></p><p>This eulogy or commemorative address is apparently unpublished. The author's allusion to New Jersey which he refers to as "here" within the text may offer a hint to its origin.</p>‎

‎Shanghai Shanghai Education Publishing House 1987 Un joli lot de ces affiches pédagogiques, racontant l'histoire de « Qui a perdu la balle ? ». Il s'agit d'un lot complet de neuf affiches, de différentes tailles. (Lot complet). Il existe une dixième affiche il semble s'agir d'un « avant-goût » d'un autre ensemble d'affiches. Elles sont destinées aux enfants de maternelle. La série portait le titre accrocheur de « Affiches pédagogiques pour la narration d'histoires illustrées en maternelle (Classe moyenne, série 2, n° 9-1) ». La plupart des affiches sont en parfait état, n'ayant jamais été utilisées. Deux d'entre elles ont été accrochées dans une salle de classe ; elles présentent donc de légères traces d'usure sur les bords et des résidus de ruban adhésif au dos. Un bel ensemble d'affiches. Leurs dimensions varient légèrement, mais elles mesurent généralement 530 × 780 mm (20Ÿ × 30Ÿ pouces).‎

‎A lovely set of these educational posters, telling the story of "Who lost the ball." This is a complete set of nine posters, or various sizes. (A complete set). There is a tenth poster - this seems to be "teaser" for another set of posters. They are aimed at kindergarten children. The series came under the snappy title of "Educational Wall Charts for Picture-Based Storytelling in Kindergartens (Middle Class, Series 2, No. 9-1)." Most of the posters are in perfect, unused condition. Two of them have been used to put up in a classroom, so has some light edge wear, and backing tape to them. A nice set of the posters. They all vary slightly by size, but typically 530 by 780mm (20Ÿ by 30Ÿ inches). .‎

‎France NP C1880 Une jolie carte de prière française. Peinte à la main sur vélin ou celluloïd. A gauche, un calice et une hostie entourés de fleurs, joliment dessinés. À droite, un texte écrit à la main en français "Quand vous aurez communié fermez les yeux du corpsourrez les yeux de l'áme et vous y trouverez le ciel" en anglais, "When you have received communion, close the eyes of your body, open the eyes of your soul and you will find Heaven there." (Quand vous aurez communié, fermez les yeux du corps, ouvrez les yeux de l'áme et vous y trouverez le ciel). Propre et bien rangé. Le vélin est très légèrement noirci. Un bel exemplaire. 5,5 cm x 8 cm.‎

‎A postage stamp collage depicting a Chinese court scene. Four Seasons.‎

‎Hungary N.P. C1960 Première édition. Une ravissante uvre d'art philatélique ou de « timbromanie » réalisée à la main. Le collage représente une scène de cour chinoise, avec deux personnages vêtus de robes traditionnelles de la dynastie Han dans une cour-jardin. En observant l'uvre de plus près, on constate qu'elle est composée presque exclusivement d'éléments provenant de la Magyar Posta. Dans un timbre découpé en haut à droite figure le titre « Les Quatre Saisons ». Cela suggère que cette uvre, avec son fond blanc, représente la scène de l'hiver. Les timbres, en particulier ceux de la série verte représentant des portraits ou des personnages, correspondent aux émissions timbriques hongroises des années 1950-1960. Le fond est en soie crème. L'ensemble est bordé d'une feuille d'argent et d'une bordure en soie texturée. On observe une légère coloration foncée en haut à gauche de la bordure. Dans l'ensemble, l'uvre est toutefois en excellent état. Le collage de soie est collé sur un carton de support. Celui-ci est légèrement foncé, mais en bon état. L'image mesure 29 cm x 21 cm. Le cadre mesure 37,5 cm x 29 cm. Une ravissante uvre d'art populaire philatélique.‎

‎First edition. A lovely hand made piece of philatelic art or timbromanie. The collage depicts a Chinese court scene, with two figures in traditional Han-dynasty style robes in a garden courtyard. Looking closely at the piece, you can see that it is composed almost entirely of Magyar Posta items. In a cut out stamp to the top right is the title "Four Seasons." That would suggest that this piece, with the white background, is the Winter scene. The stamps, in particular, the green series featuring portraits/figures, is consistent with Hungarian stamp issues from the 1950s1960s. The background is a cream silk. The whole is bordered with silver foil, and has a border of textured silk. There is a touch of darkening to the top left of the border. Overall though, in excellent condition. The silk collage is pasted onto a backing card. This is a little darkened, but sound. Image is 29cm x 21cm. The frame is 37.5cm x 29cm. A lovely piece of philatelic folk art. .‎

Signée de façon indistincte, nous n'avons pas été en mesure d'identifier la signature (mais vous trouverez ci-joint une photographie de celle-ci en gros plan). Le tableau est en excellent état. Propre et net, sans aucune marque, sous une carte Passepartout légèrement assombrie et légèrement marquée. Les bords cachés du tableau montrent bien le travail de l'artiste. Le verso est vierge et propre. Bien qu'elle ne soit pas identifiée, la peinture est française et date du milieu du XIXe siècle. Le tableau mesure 21 cm x 34 cm. L'entourage de la carte mesure 35 cm x 47,5 cm.‎

‎A beautifully executed water colour of a forest scene, with two women gathering herbs in the middle ground. Signed indistinctly, we have been unable to identify the signature (but have attached a photograph of this in close up). The painting is in excellent condition. Clean and tidy, without any marks, Under a slightly darkened and slightly marked card Passepartout. The hidden edges of the painting show the workings of the artist nicely. Blank and clean to the verso. Although it has not been identified, the painting is French and dates from the mid-19th century. The painting is 21cm x 34cm. The card surround is 35cm x 47.5cm. .‎

‎First edition. Complete. A collection of 20 large albumen photographs laid onto backing card with description of each printed to the bottom edge, showing the Abbaye de Maredsous and the Ecole Abbataile. These are held in a red clamshell box with black and gilt decoration, crest and titles. The box has significant fading / spotting from damp, but is still holding well, and has done its job of protecting the photographs inside. The photographs are of high quality, and show the building of the abbey and the new school there. They are dated by the fact that the school was founded in 1881 (earliest date) and that the the Abbey was completed in 1892, but in these images is still some way off completion. Interesting architectural prints, but also of the students and staff at the school, both being educated and relaxing. A very nice collection. Images are mostly 17cm x 24cm and backing cards are 25cm x 32cm. Box is 35cm x 27cm.‎
