Light in August is a 1932 novel by the Southern American author William Faulkner. It belongs to the Southern gothic and modernist literary genres. Set in the American South during the 1930s when Prohibition was in effect and Jim Crow laws legalized racial segregation in the South aka "Jefferson Yoknapatawpha County Mississippi" Faulkner's fictional county. The Modern Library has ranked this novel among the "100 Best English-language novels of the 20th century." Text of this ML edition has been reproduced photographically from the First Edition. A SUPERIOR copy internally and externally of the handy Modern Library editions which were normally much abused by readers so Scarce in this tight bright and clean condition. Traces of rubbing at the dj's extremities. Toledano's Guide pp.165 176 places the printing of this design for the dust jacket rear panel from 1954-59 while the number "360" printed at the top inside of the dust jacket indicates a printing in 1952 hence making this copy a very early reprint of the 1950 ML edition.
