A reflection of the close working relationship between Dufy and Apollinaire First Dufy edition number 113 of 380 copies printed on Montgolfier d'Annonay paper from a total edition of 450. "Dufy again paid tribute to Apollinaire. by illustrating one of his major pieces of prose fiction. Le Poète Assassiné was originally a book of short stories which took its title from its opening novella. Dufy had attended the launch party for the book organized by Paul Dermée and Juan Gris at the Palais d'Orléans in Montparnasse on New Year's Eve 1916. In 1924 the Sans Pareil publishing house reportedly invited Picasso to illustrate a new edition of the story but once again two years later it was Dufy who took on the job. The closeness of the working relationship between Dufy and Apollinaire is reflected thematically in the collector's edition of Apollinaire's Le Poète Assassiné produced in 1926 10 years after initial publication of the work and eight years after the poet's death" Brown pp. 4 and 24. Quarto 285 x 224 mm. 18 full-page and 18 smaller lithographs by Raoul Dufy. Later morocco halved diagonally into red and black fields lettered in white on spine and front cover untrimmed. S'adressant à l'éditeur Pierre-Victor Stock Apollinaire évoque pour la première fois de manière directe son projet de recueil de nouvelles Le Poète assassiné : « J'ai l'intention de faire paraître un volume de nouvelles si je trouve un éditeur. Je l'intitulerai Le Poète assassiné. Voulez-vous me refuser cet ouvrage de façon à ce que je puisse chercher un éditeur. » Signe de tensions éditoriales il demande une fin de non-recevoir formelle pour pouvoir démarcher ailleurs - tout en affirmant vouloir se tenir à l'écart de la maison des frères Briffaut qu'il désigne de façon allusive : « Je vous donne ma parole d'honneur de ne point publier ce livre dans une maison qui de près ou de loin touche à M. He is credited with coining the term 'cubism' in his preface to the catalogue for the Independants exhibition in Brussels in 1911. In his Les Peintres Cubistes he was among the first critics to articulate the principles of Cubism.Les Peintres Cubistes Meditations Esthetiques was written between 1905-1912 and finally published the following year. It is considered one of the first and foremost critical studies on the Cubist movement and this influential treatise was finalised shortly after the original showcase of Cubist art in 1911 in Paris at the Salon des Independants in Paris. Les Peintres Cubistes delves into the artistic movement's aesthetic origins and development. The text includes excerpts from Guillaume Apollinaire's literary journal Les Soirees de Paris complemented by 45 black and white photographs of artworks by Picasso Braques Duchamp and several others. It was released as part of the 'Tous les Arts' series overseen by Apollinaire himself.Provenance: Originally from Paris Alice Thevin spent much of her life in the US where she taught art and literature in Boston Philadelphia and New York. After her death her partner Fanny Peabody Mason established a fund in her memory at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. unknown
