‎Exceptionnel manuscrit autographe complet de Louis Aragon. 4 pagesau crayon sur 4 feuillets numérotés de sa main. Discrètre trace de décharge de rouille sur le premier feuillet et au verso du dernier. Pli horizontal sur l'ensemble des feuillets. L'article sera publié sous le titre "L'Art de prendre une photo pour Les Lettres Françaises" (Regards, 14 mai 1948). Aragon accompagne le grand Willy Ronis, le temps d'une séance photographique d'un portrait de mode pour LesLettres Françaises. Sur les pas de Ronis faisant virevolter son modèle, l'écrivainnous entraîne pendant quatre pages à travers un Paris enchanteuroù se mêlent vie populaire et élégance mondaine. "Il s'agissait d'illustrer Le Nez au vent, de Louis Chéronnet. La chronique avait pour thème : L'Elégance de Paris se déplace vers l'ouest, et plus précisément portait sur l'avenue Montaigne" commence Aragon dans sa chronique. Le temps d'une journée, l'écrivain documente avec fascination le travail du photographe dans l'un de ses décors de prédilection : les rues de Paris. Plusieurs tableaux se succèdent, dans le quartier Montorgueil,chez la chapelière, au studio de Ronis, dans l'avenue Montaigne,au théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Le maître mot, chez Aragon comme chez Ronis, est le mouvement. La photographien'a rien de statique, les impressions d'Aragon non plus. On saute, comme la modèle sur les clichés du photographe, d'un endroit à l'autre. Le portrait de l'élégante s'élargit, sous la plume de l'écrivain, à ses alentours, à la bouillonante vie de Paris qui s'arrête un instant le temps de contempler la silhouette de la mannequin animée par les instructions du photographe. Soixante ans plus tard, Ronis se souviendra de cette mémorable journée : "[Aragon] avait un très beau regard sur la photo. Il savait ce que c'était que l'image. Elsa aussi. Lui m'a fait travaillé quand il a fondé et dirigé les Lettres françaises. J'ai fait plusieurs reportages pour lui. Le premier petit reportage, c'était en 1947 ou 48, un reportage sur la mode avenue Montaigne. Aragon est venu avec moi, on avait choisi un mannequin. J'étais un peu intimidé par Aragon, c'était mon premier contact avec lui. Je voulais tirer le maximum de mon mannequin, je me démenais beaucoup car j'avais le trac. Me voir, ça l'a tellement amusé qu'il n'a pas fait le reportage écrit sur le mannequin mais sur moi travaillant. Je l'avais ensuite revu d'assez nombreuses fois, on se tutoyait." (Willy Ronis, entretien dansLibération,14 septembre 2009) Leurs chemins militants se croisèrent à de nombreuses reprises - Ronis contribua par ses clichés à témoigner des révoltes sociales qui secouent les années 1930 tandis qu'Aragon y consacra de nombreux articles. En 1949,le photographe suivra la journée commémorative de la tragédie d'Oradour-sur-Glane, à laquelle participent près de 400 artistes à l'initiative d'Aragon. Il sera également l'auteur de beaux portraits du couple Aragon-Triolet. Extraits du manuscrit : Willy Ronis m'avait donné rendez-vous à 10 h. 30, au coin de la rue Tiquetonne et de la rue Montorgueil. Paraît qu'il y photographiait des sportifs. Ah ! c'était ce restaurant où, jadis, on allait manger avec Vaillant-Couturier, et il y avait des types de l'AF [Action Française] qui nous fusillaient du regard... En fait de sportifs, Willy était là, dans son veston de velours, avec ses bésicles, qui prenait de droite et de gauche, au comptoir, un couple d'amoureux. Gentils, les amoureux... La petite, surtout... C'est peut-être un sport. [...] Il n'y a rien de plus solennel que Caroline Reboux. C'est le temple des chapeaux. S'il vivait de nos jours, c'est ici qu'Aristote écrirait. Caroline Reboux, elle, a fait les bibis de Nana et d'Eugénie de Montijo ; chez elle, Bel-Ami se tortillait la moustache en regardant dans les glaces les dames essayer leurs coiffures... Fine. s. d. 1944-1945 19.80 x 26.50 cm une feuille sous étui-chemise Exceptionally rare autograph satirical poem by Louis Aragon entitledDistiques pour une Carmagnole de la Honte written between September 1944 and February 1945. 26 lines penned in black ink on a single leaf with a note from the author in blue ink at the foot of the page. Our manuscript belongs to a group of thirteen poems composed during the first half of 1945 intended for publication in a poetry anthology Aragon published by Pierre Seghers in Paris Collection “Poètes d’aujourd’hui” no. 2 20 July 1945. It was sent by Aragon as a working copy to his editor and friend Claude Roy. This autograph poem is the only known manuscript of the Distiques with neither manuscript nor proofs held in the extensive Triolet-Aragon archives at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The autograph poem is housed in a midnight blue half-morocco folder with patterned paper boards beige lambskin doublures and a matching morocco-edged slipcase. Binding signed by Thomas Boichot. A true historical document and scathing indictment of the collaborators who sought refuge in Sigmaringen Aragon’s Distiques were composed during the winter of 1944–1945 following the publication of Musée Grévin. A quintessential example of Aragon’s resistance poetry this octosyllabic and ten-line verse composition denounces in no uncertain terms the leaders of the Vichy regime and their most ardent supporters. Sarcasm insult and invective fuel a vengeful poetry reminiscent of the fiery tone of Front Rouge which marked his break with surrealism. Yet the poem’s tone remains brisk and lively: the residents of Sigmaringen castle sing dance and play and Aragon concludes with a rousing quatrain: «Ah ça ira ça ira Les Pétain Laval tous à la lanterne Ah ça ira ça ira ça ira Les Pétain Laval tous on les pendra» borrowed from the revolutionary anthem «Ah ça ira ça ira ça ira Les aristocrates à la lanterne. Ah! ça ira ça ira ça ira! Les aristocrates on les pendra.» Despite numerous appeals to flee France at the outbreak of war Aragon chose to remain going underground with Elsa Triolet after serving bravely during the German offensive. The Occupation marked a period of intense activity for the writer who clandestinely published his collections of resistance poetry Le Crève-cœur 1941 Les Yeux d’Elsa 1942 Le Musée Grévin 1943 La Diane française 1944 and under various pseudonyms poems and responses to collaborationists in the Lettres Françaises. At the same time he was commissioned by the Communist Party to rally writers and intellectuals in the southern zone where he founded a branch of the Comité National des Écrivains bringing together Stanislas Fumet Auguste Anglès Henry Malherbe and Jean Prévost. Aragon’s example proved that in times of war poetry could itself be a form of resistance a refusal to yield. As Claude Roy recipient of the manuscript later remarked: «La parole d’Aragon s’élevait avec une violence et une aisance qui se répercutaient d’un bout de la France à l’autre.» «Ça doit avoir de la dégaine/Le château de Siegmaringen/On s’y retrouve entre félons/Sous les lustres du grand salon» Aragon wrote two poems about Sigmaringen the former Swabian stronghold of the Hohenzollern family which hosted Pétain and his entourage after their flight from Vichy and Belfort. As Allied forces advanced and on orders from the Reich the Marshal and his supporters set up a puppet government there in September 1944 later replaced by the “Gouvernemental Delegation for the Defence of French Interests in Germany” during the war’s final months. Aragon dedicates a distich to Laval who had been ousted from power by this new structure: «Laval a l’air bien embêté / D’être en disponibilité». He had met her in 1928 and she became his muse starting in the 1940s. Aragon and Triolet collaborated in the left-wing French media before and during World War II going underground for most of the Nazi occupation. Louis Aragon wrote poems under the name of Le Musée Grévin using the pseudonym of François la Colère published during the Vichy regime by the Éditions de Minuit underground editor.
