‎Die Mischna, deren Entstehungsprozeß in der Zeit des Zweiten Tempels begann, wurde als Summe der rabbinischen Gelehrsamkeit um 200 n. Chr. durch Rabbi Jehuda ha-Nasi schriftlich fixiert. Sie bildet, als Aufzeichnung des bis dahin mündlich überlieferten Traditionsstoffes (besonders der Kommentare zur Tora), zusammen mit dem Pentateuch die zentrale Quelle der jüdischen Religionsgesetze. Damit wurde die Mischna zur Grundlage des Talmuds und aller weiteren religionsgesetzlichen Werke des rabbinischen Judentums. Neben Verordnungen findet sich in der Mischna auch historisches Material aus der Zeit des Zweiten Tempels und des Neuen Testaments sowie Weisheitsliteratur und Erbauliches. Die Mischna ist also der erste große Abschluß rabbinischen Denkens und umreißt das, was Judentum bezeichnet in seiner ersten Entwicklungsstufe, die alle späteren Entwicklungen bis heute beeinflußte. Um zu einem zuverlässigen Text zu gelangen, wurden für die neue Übersetzung die überlieferten Handschriften als Grundlage herangezogen. Die neue Ausgabe erscheint, den sechs ?Ordnungen? der Mischna entsprechend, in sechs Bänden, beginnend mit der zweiten Ordnung, den Festzeiten (Seder Mo?ed). Fest- und Gedenktage spielen im Judentum eine wichtige Rolle. In Seder Mo?ed werden alle Feste des jüdischen Kalenders und die mit ihnen verbundenen Vorschriften und Gebräuche ausführlich dargestellt. "Volodymyr Mykhailovych Kubiyovych, was a Ukrainian geographer with a specialty in demography, a cartographer, an encyclopedist, politician, and statesman. Of mixed Ukrainian and Polish ethnic background, he was an important intellectual supporting the Ukrainian national movement in inter-war Poland, and his scholarly works from this period dealt with the Ukrainian ethnic presence in Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Romania, and with the geographical boundaries of ethnographic Ukraine. During World War II he headed the Cracow-based Ukrainian Central Committee which organized social and charitable work among Ukrainians in occupied Poland. Kubiyovych became a main proponent of the cooperation between certain Ukrainian Nationalist organizations and Nazi Germany with the ultimate goal of achieving an independent Ukrainian national state. After the war, he retired from political work but became one of the leading scholars of the Ukrainian diaspora in the West.
