In-16 (113 x 71 mm), plein veau grège retourné, dos gothique à 3 nerfs, plats ornés d'un jeu de filets gras d'encadrement estampés à froid (reliure postérieure dans le goût de l'époque), 82 [i.e. 80] feuillets [sign. A-K8], 5 planches gravées sur bois dont 3 dépliantes et une à volvelle mobile. "Le plus rare et le plus recherché des ouvrages de Raymond Lulle" (Caillet): 'De l'enseignement kabbalistique', ici dans sa troisième édition illustrée de 5 planches, dont trois dépliantes et une avec volvelle, montée avec ses deux parties mobiles conservées (les célèbres "roues kabbalistiques"), ainsi que 2 figures dans le texte. Lettrines et ornements typographiques gravés sur bois. La réputation de Lulle kabbaliste repose tout entière sur cet ouvrage que la recherche moderne a réattribué au médecin et humaniste véronais Pietro Mainardi (1456-1529), docteur de l'université de Ferrare en 1490, grand connaisseur de l'oeuvre de Lulle. Son nom figure d'ailleurs dans l'explicit de la première édition de l'ouvrage (Venise, 1518) pour disparaître des éditions suivantes et être remplacé par celui de Lulle. L'auteur eut l'ambition, par ce traité, d’accomplir l'idéal de Pic de la Mirandole: harmoniser l'art Lullien avec celui de la Kabbale. C'est encore en tant qu'oeuvre de Raymond Lulle que le livre a été lu et commenté par Giordano Bruno qui le rendit célèbre, pour être ensuite repris au sein des anthologies de Lulle éditées par Lazare Zetzner. Le succès et l'influence de ce traité ne se démentirent pas aux XVIe et XVIIe siècles, au long d'une réception qui s’étend de Giordano Bruno, Claude Duret, Athanasius Kircher jusqu'à Leibniz (cf. Eva Broner, 'Doctor Illuminatus: A Ramon Llull Reader', Princeton U. Press, 1993). Le livre est considéré par les catalogues de Stanislas de Guaïta (qui ne possédait qu'une édition de 1601) et par celui de Caillet, comme "le plus rare et le plus recherché des ouvrages de Raymond Lulle". The great Polish authority R. Solomon Luria (d. 1574) , who, in a responsum on procedure where the kabbalah differs from the codes (Responsa Rashal [Fuerth, 1768], no. 98) , boldly rejects the kabbalistic ruling and goes on to state that R. Simeon ben Yohai, the traditional author of the Zohar, is not followed in his legal decisions, so that even if he came back to earth, we would be obliged to ignore his rulings. ('The Responsa of Rabbi Joseph Hayyim of Baghdad', Perspectives on Jews and Judaism: Essays in Honor of Wolfe Kelman; 1978) . Solomon b. Jehiel Luria (Maharshal or Rashal) : Rabbi and author; born in Brest-Litovsk, Lithuania, 1510; died at Lublin Nov. 7, 1573. When still a youth his parents sent him to Posen, where he studied under the guidance of his grandfather Rabbi Isaac Klauberia. He left Posen in 1535, owing to an extensive fire which destroyed his grandfather's property. On his return to his native place he assiduously continued his studies. Here he married Lipka, daughter of Rabbi Kalonymus. After some time he was elected rabbi of Brest, and established a yeshibah there. About 1550 he received the appointment of rabbi and head of the yeshibah at Ostrog, and in 1555 he moved to Lublin, where he became head of the famous yeshibah. First edition. Original illustrated wrappers, 12mo, 43, 10 pages. Text in English and Hebrew. 13 drawings made by a Jewish woman of her fellow inmates while in the concentration camp at Leibitsch which consisted of 1200 Jewish women who had been deported from the Kaunas Ghetto in East Prussia. Lurie was liberated by the Red Army on 21 January 1945. In March 1945 she reached a camp in Italy, where she met Jewish soldiers from Palestine who were serving in the British army. One of them, the artist Menahem Shemi, organized an exhibition of drawings from the camps, which resulted in the publication of a booklet Jewesses in Slavery. This contained drawings by Lurie from Stutthof and Leibitz and was published by the Jewish Soldiers' Club of Rome in 1945. Lurie also created stage sets for the military song and dance group in the camp, which was founded by Eliahu Goldberg and Mordechai Zeira. Lurie reached Israel (Palestine) in July 1945 and was received with great excitement. Her stories were published in the press and her drawings were exhibited in exhibitions. In 1946 she was again awarded the Dizengoff Prize for a sketch Girl with Yellow Badge, which she had made in the Kovno ghetto (World ORT and Beit Lohamei Haghetaot, 2001) . Hier wurde er Mitglied des Kreises um Ruth Fischer und arbeitete unter dem Parteinamen Alexander Emel. Nach der Machtübernahme der Nazis emigrierte er nach Moskau. Wegen seiner früheren Kontakte zu Ruth Fischer wurde er verhaftet und war Angeklagter im Schauprozess gegen Sinowjew und Kamenew. Am 24. August 1936 zum Tode verurteilt und erschossen. Selten. Arnold Lustig (19262011) , was a Czech writer, screenwriter, and journalist. Born in Prague, Lustig was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942 and later to a number of others, including Auschwitz and Buchenwald. At the end of the war he managed to escape from the death train and reach Prague, where he later graduated from the School of Political and Social Sciences. Lustigs work is based mainly on his tragic experiences in concentration camps and postwar life in his homeland. He made his literary debut with the collection of stories Night and Hope (1958) filmed as Z. Brynychs A Transport from Paradise (1962) . Much of Lustigs fiction has been translated into several languages. In 2004 he was awarded the Vladislav Vancura Prize. From 2004 Lustig lived in Prague. (Dagan and Pojar in EJ 2010) .
