His tireless pursuit of a cooperative relationship between Jews and Arabs was a manifestation of his philosophy of life; his effort on behalf of the binational plan stands as one in a series of efforts by him to change Jewish public life in both American and Mandatory Palestine" (Kotzin, 2010). In this pamphlet, Magnes includes his essay with the pamphlet's title, as well as his recent New York Times article and Philby's plan. He also republishes his 1921 letter to the editor of the London Jewish Chronicle in which he claims that redemption would come to the Jews only if they stop infringing on Arab national aspirations in Palestine. He placed this article in the pamphlet, he says, "to show that my present attitude is not new, and that it is the result of a view of life and a conception of the ethical function of Judaism and does not just spring from tactical or strategic motives." Written by Raphael Mahler (18991977) , historian. Mahler, who was born in Nowy Sacz, eastern Galicia, Poland, studied at the rabbinical seminary and the University of Vienna until 1922. He served as a teacher of general and Jewish history in Jewish secondary schools in Poland. In 1937 he immigrated to the United States and was a teacher in various educational institutions in New York. He was a member from his youth of the left Po'alei Zion party and was connected with YIVO in its research studies and administration, both in Poland and in the U. S. In 1950 he went to Israel, where he lectured on the history of Israel at Tel Aviv University and in 1961 was appointed professor there. He wrote many studies on the history of the Jews in Yiddish, Polish, German, English, and, after going to Israel, chiefly in Hebrew. Original full leather binding, worn and broken; with the boards tooled in a crude, but interesting, geometric pattern. The festival liturgy according to the German-Polish rite, translated into Yiddish by Asher Anshel ben Joseph Mordecai in the 16th century for the use of Ashkenazi Jews living in Germany and Holland. The Mahzor is the prayer book used by Jews on the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Many Jews also make use of specialized mahzorim on the three "pilgrimage festivals" of Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot. The prayer book is a specialized form of the siddur, which is generally intended for use in weekday and Shabbat services. The word mahzor means 'cycle' ("to return"). Lausanne chez l'artiste 1949 1 vol. broché plaquette in-8, agrafée, jaquette jaune illustrée, 32 pp., 24 reproductions en noir - le monogramme du titre et la dernière reproduction coloriée et signée par l'artiste. Edition originale numérotée à la main avec un envoi de l'artiste. On joint une eau-forte en deux tons titrée au crayon "Moon" et signée par l'artiste, ainsi qu'une invitation illustrée au vernissage de l'exposition du Petit Studio à Lausanne. Introduction par Georgine Oeri. Léo Maillet (Léopold Mayer), artiste juif né à Francfort en 1902, parvient à se réfugier en Suisse en 1942, où il poursuivra son oeuvre féconde malgré la destruction et la perte d'une grande partie de ses oeuvres d'avant-guerre. Petit pli angulaire à la couverture.
