‎"Alma Rosé war im wahrsten Sinne die Leiterin unseres Orchesters. Sie zog uns alle in den Bann ihres Wahns, aus dem Repertoire, das wir spielten, etwas Perfektes zu machen. Wer von uns überlebte, verdankt es ihr. Sie war eine stolze Frau - würdevoll und unnahbar.' (Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, Cellistin in der Frauenkapelle Auschwitz-Birkenau). Alma Rosé entstammt dem musikalischen Adel des Wiens der Jahrhundertwende. Ihre Eltern waren Arnold Rosé, Konzertmeister der Wiener Philharmoniker und Leiter des berühmten Rosé-Quartetts, und Justine Mahler, Schwester Gustav Mahlers; ihre Patentante war Alma Mahler-Werfel. Kein Wunder, daß aus dem hochbegabten Mädchen eine Geigenvirtuosin wurde, die mit ihren 'Wiener-Walzermädeln' kreuz und quer durch Europa tourte. Nach dem 'Anschluß' Österreichs mußte die jüdische Familie emigrieren. Alma und ihr Vater gingen nach London. Um Geld zu verdienen, trat Alma Rosé weiter in Holland auf, so lange, bis es zu spät war und sie nicht mehr nach London zurückkonnte. Im Dezember 1942 floh sie aus dem besetzten Holland, wurde in Dijon von der Gestapo verhaftet und im Juli 1943 nach Auschwitz-Birkenau deportiert. Bis zu ihrem Tod im April 1944 leitete sie die Lagerkapelle, das sogenannte Mädchenorchester". - Druckfrisch; beim Verlag nicht mehr lieferbar (vergriffen).‎
