FROM A HISTORIAN'S NOTEBOOK : EUROPEAN JEWRY BEFORE AND AFTER HITLER.
8vo. 56 pages. First edition. Reprinted from American Jewish year book, vol. 63, 1962. SUBJECT (S) : Jews Europe history. Baron (1895-1989) was a professor at Columbia University, and was appointed the Nathan L. Miller Professor of Jewish History, Literature, and Institutions there in 1929, making Columbia the first university to provide a true academic milieu for Jewish studies. During his incumbency, Baron denounced the "lachrymose conception of Jewish history" as a story of individuals and persecutions, flawed by undue emphasis on events, texts and idealism. He used universal categories and scholarly research to place Jewish history in a larger comparative context, while placing equal emphasis on the vibrancy of Jewish religious culture. (columbia.edu) Promotional flyer laid in. Very good condition. (HOLO2-8-6)

Oko, (18831944) , librarian at Hebrew Union College and expert on Spinoza. Our edition includes laid in, folded quarto sized leaf, taped into the hinge, a review of Husiks work, Medieval Jewish Philosophy, written by David Neumark, originally printed in the American Jewish Chronicle. Husiks A History of mediaeval Jewish philosophy; written by Oko under a pseudonym, privately printed and distributed, befitting such a charged discussion, as the author states: Neumarks article does more than accuse Husik of dilettantism, plagiarism and charlatanry; it is mean-spirited and even malicious. BARUH PINTO.
Annuaire de la diaspora Juive mondiale.
New New English Original binding with original dust wrapper. Oblong large 8vo. (23 x 24 cm). In French. Ills.

The Sephardic onomasticon: An etymological research on Sephardic family names of the Jews living in Turkey.
New New English Original binding with original dust wrapper. Oblong 4to. (22 x 30 cm). In English, French, Hebrew, Ladino, Spanish, and Turkish. [v], [1], 330 p. The Sephardic Onomasticon is an etymological research on Sephardic family names of the Jews living in Turkey. The author's point of departure for trying to establish the etymologies is: he proceeds from the premise that, after biblical times, throughout the the generations, Jews who chose surnames, tended to try and preserve something to remind themselves of the names they had used before, either in their sound or their meaning.
