. Hatzvi was the first Hebrew paper to report what was happening throughout the land. Ben-Ze'eb, Judah Leb
Jesode Hadath / Yesodey Ha-Dat / Religiones Lehrbuch [EARLY EDITION] [YIDDISH AND HEBREW] Religiones Lehrbuch für die jüdische Jugend beiderlei Geschlechts, enthaltet religiöse pflichten alles Mensch überhaupt und alles Israelit besonders, nebst der wichtigsten zeremoniell Gesetzen, in katechetischer Ordnung verfasst. Dritte Auflage.
RARE third edition, dating from 1823, of the theological textbook written by the German-Jewish member of the Haskalah movement, Jehuda Löw Ben-Zeev. The book was meant to teach the basics of the Jewish faith and the Jewish religion in a catechistic manner. The book was revolutionary in several aspects: in its approach to readers of both genders, by utilizing Leibnizian logic as basis for Judaism, and by its strict adherence to Biblical scriptures only. This bilingual edition was aimed at a larger section of the population: the left pages are printed in Hebrew, and the right pages in Hebrew transliteration of German. 200x125mm. 227 pages. Marbled quarter-leather Hardcover. Cover worn and rubbed. Cover corners slightly tattered. Cover edges slightly loose from binding. Spine worn and bumped. Spine edges and hinges peeling. Humidity stains on few first and last pages. Previous owners' names on whitepages and title page. Pen inscription on rear whitepage. Few pages slightly torn, with tears taped together, not detracting from readability save the last page Hebrew side outer edge (damage to several letters of the text). Page 224 outer edge damaged (text slightly damaged). Pages yellowing, some pages slightly stained. [SUMMARY]: Despite of the mostly external damage and the wear sustained in the nearly two centuries since its printing, this rare Haskalah-era Jewish theological textbook is still in good reading condition.

Original Wraps. 8vo. 44 pages. 22 cm. First edition. Translated from the Hebrew by I. Halevy-Levin. Torah va'avodah library. With the publication of this booklet, we inaugurate our Rishonim Library. The object we have set ourselves in this series is to publish short biographies of the great Rabbinic figures of the past century, whose influence upon the course of Jewish national endeavor, though profound, has not always been adequately appreciated. - Introduction. The Defender of Ha' Aretz (translated from the original) by Rabbi Dr. S. M. Leherman. They were accommodated in a castle in Wales [Gwrych Castle] and set up Hachshara centres in Bromsgrove and other places, as well as a Merkaz Limmud in Manchester to which members came from the Hachsharah centres for periods of three or six months for intensive Jewish studies. Later on a farm was bought at Thaxted in Essex which became not only a model Hachsharah centre but very quickly a successful agricultural venture which at one time won first prize for having the best milk yielding cow in Essex! Benbassa Esther e Aron Rodrigue
Storia Degli Ebrei Sefarditi Da Toledo a Salonicco

Benbassa, Esther; Rodrigue, Aron
Sephardi Jewry: A History Of The Judeo-Spanish Community, 14th--20th Centuries (ISBN:0520218221)
8vo, br. ed., 377 pages, Until the publication of this remarkably comprehensive history of the Sephardi diaspora, only limited attention had been given to the distinctive Judeo-Spanish cultural entity that flourished in the Balkans and Asia Minor for more than four centuries. Yet the great majority of Sephardi Jews, after their expulsion from Spain in 1492 and subsequently from Portugal, found their way to this region, drawn by the political stability and relatively tolerant rule of the Ottoman Empire, as well as by promising socioeconomic conditions. Esther Benbassa and Aron Rodrigue show how Sephardi society and culture developed in the Levant, sharing language, religion, customs, and communal life as they did nowhere else, both during prosperous times and during the declining fortunes of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The impact of westernization, the end of Ottoman power, and the rise of fragmenting nation-states transformed this vital community in the modern era. And, like many other Jewish communities, the unique Judeo-Spanish culture was dispersed and destroyed by the Holocaust and the migrations of the twentieth century. Sephardi Jewry presents its vivid history in a readable, well-documented narrative
