' Includes rabbinic sources, state documents pertaining to Jewish history in Bohemia, a history of the old and new synagogues. Written by Abraham Stein (1818-1884) German rabbi ... Studied at the Teachers' Seminary of Cassel (1832-34) and at the University of Berlin (Ph. D. 1844) . He was principal of the seminary of Cassel 1845-47, rabbi at Filehne 1848-50, and rabbi of the Altschottländische community of Danzig 1850-63. When the old Meisel Synagogue of Prague was changed in 1864 to a modern temple with a choir, organ, and sermon, Stein received a call as preacher to this place of worship, where he officiated until his death. From 1865 to 1868 he acted also as teacher of Talmud at the Talmud Torah founded by Rapaport in this community. 1906 JE. Subjects: Jews - Czech Republic - Bohemia - History. OCLC lists 18 copies. In 1833 he delivered his first sermon in Frankfort, in which he pleaded for the introduction of reforms; two years later he became rabbi of Burg and Altenkunstadt (Franconia) ; and from 1844 to 1862, when he withdrew from public life, he was rabbi at Frankfort-on-the-Main. He was especially prominent as one of the leaders of the Reform movement (JewishEncyclopedia.com 2017) . Contains Volume 1 The Doctrine of God and Man (With Particular Reference to the Distinctive Doctrines of Judaism and Christianity and Volume 2 ON the Religious Life. As the most distinguished figure in the Tshernovitser Yidisher Shulfareyn (Czernowitz Association of Jewish Schools) and in the Jewish Cultural Association of Romania (founded in 1921) , Shteynbarg played a leading role in the cultural life of Romanian Jews.

Lucien Steinberg (1926-2008) was born in Romania, emigrated to Palestine with his family in 1943, and moved to Paris in 1948, where he lived for the rest of his life. He is considered one of the first historians to specifically focus on Jewish resistance during the holocaust. He was president of the Union of Jews for Resistance and Mutual Aid (UJRE) and served on the board of the (ME MRJ) , the association for Memory of Jewish resistance to the ME (forced labor) . This volume extensively surveys armed Jewish resistance movements throughout occupied Europe, country by country, as well as insurrections and uprisings in death and labor camps.
