Attingendo a una testimonianza di vita vissuta e mescolandola con una fantasia accesa e nutrita di letture, Franca Cancogni racconta il destino di una famiglia ebrea del Novecento secondo percorsi sorprendenti e ridà vita a un mondo duro eppure ancora aperto a molti futuri possibili. Questo romanzo pieno di giovinezza e di speranze di pace scritto da un’autrice nei suoi novant’anni è come un non, il “pane del ritorno”, posto in Uzbekistan all’ingresso di casa per offrirlo a chi intraprende un lungo viaggio, perché lo assaggi e un giorno torni a mangiarne il resto. Nata a Roma nel 1920, sorella dello scrittore Manlio insieme al quale scrisse nel 1978 il romanzo Adua, Franca Cancogni Violani ha lavorato come sceneggiatrice e firmato decine di traduzioni, tra cui quelle di Joyce, D.H. Lawrence e Conrad per Einaudi.

Annotated bibliography on Jewish Women, covering anthologies, history/herstory, religious life and law, in the United States and Canada, in Israel, in the Holocaust and resistance, other countries, children's books, poetry, and reference works. Aviva Cantor (born 1940) was a co-founder in 1968 of the Jewish Liberation in New York, a Socialist Zionist organization, and served as founding editor of its Jewish Liberation Journal. JLP was among the first Jewish groups to advocate the two-state solution (1968)
. In 1976, she initiated and co-founded Lilith, the independent Jewish Feminist quarterly magazine, which she served as co-founding editor through 1987, and for which she wrote regularly.

Ezriel Carlebach (19081956) , was a Hebrew writer and journalist. Carlebach, who was born in Leipzig, left there at the age of 15 to study at Lithuanian yeshivot and later became a pupil of Rabbi Kook in Jerusalem. He was secretary of the international Sabbath League and organized its first conference in Berlin in 1929. Carlebach worked on the editorial staff of the Hamburger Israelitisches Familienblatt from 1929; of the Haynt of Warsaw from 1933; and also the Tel Aviv papers Haaretz and Ha-Zofeh. - EJ 2008.
