‎Edition originale de ce texte qui parut une première fois dans "Commerce" en 1929. Tirage unique à 200 exemplaires, tous sur vélin d'Arches (n° 32). C'est évidemment Pierre Bettencourt, et non le Mercure de France et l'imprimeur "Durand" à Chartres (celui qui imprima l'EO française d'Ulysse de Joyce), qui est seul responsable de cette élégante publication. C'est également lui qui se cache derrière les initiales M.S. de la préface (qui pourraient faire penser à Maurice Saillet). Celle-ci, de même que le beau portrait photographique de Paulhan, ont été retirés, à la demande de ce dernier, de la plupart des exemplaires. Le nôtre est bien complet de ces deux éléments réjouissants. Rousseurs à la couverture, pour le reste parfait et en grande partie non coupé.‎

Fondateur à Paris de la librairie La Hune, longtemps symbole culturel du quartier de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, il est le frère de l'écrivain Alain Gheerbrant et le père du cinéaste Denis Gheerbrant ; bel exemplaire encore en grande partie protégé par son papier cristal d'origine.
