Sabri Fetah Berkel (1907-1993) was an Albanian modernist painter; he was one of the most important painters and academic personalities of last century in Turkey. Berkel was born in Shkopje, in 1927 he completed high school at a French lyceum. From 1927 to 1928 he studied at an Art School in Belgrad. From 1929-1935 he finished his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence and he died in Istanbul.

Very Good Turkish Typescript letter (document) signed (TLS) by Sabri Berkel sent to 'Türkiye Çagdas Ressamlar Cemiyeti Baskanligi' [i.e. The Society of Turkish Contemporary Painters Presidency]. 15x22,5 cm. In Turkish. 18 lines. Dated April 22, 1969, Istanbul. Letter requesting that each artist send their 6 works (sculpture, oil painting, and engraving) as well as their biographies to be selected for the 10th Sao Paolo Biennial in September 1969. Signed by Berkel under his title "Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi Y. Resim Bölüm Baskani" [i.e. President of Turkish Fine Arts Academy Painting Department]. Sabri Fetah Berkel was a Turkish-Albanian modernist painter; he was one of the most important painters and academic personalities of the last century in Turkey. Berkel was born in Skopje, where, in 1927, he completed high school at a French lyceum. From 1927 to 1928 he studied at an Art School in Belgrade. From 1929-1935 he finished his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence. Sabri Fetahu Berkel visited his country Albania in 1982 where he met with his family and parents. Berkel died in Istanbul. In the honor of Turkish talented painter Sabri Berkel from Turkey, NASA decided to name the Berkel, or the well-known printmaker, and it is a complex crater that sits inside of the larger Ellington basin that indicates the presence of dark material at depth of its surface.

Very Good Turkish Edition of 48/125. Original print. 87x70 cm. Signed and dated on the lower right, edition number is on the lower left. An attractive original print, privately published in 1998, of a female portrait in golden with black contours on a red background with black veins. Untitled. Bezeyis graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1951. In 1954 he graduated from the Architectural Arts Higher Decoration Department of the Rome Academy of Fine Arts and was awarded a doctoral degree. Later he obtained a doctorate degree in Italy. He returned back to the homeland in 1955 with merits he received in almost all branches of Fine Arts. In parallel with Painting and Sculpture works he made Independent professional applications also in the architectural decoration area then in 1956 he was nominated as assistant to ITU, Faculty of Architecture. In 1958 he represented Turkey at International Venice Biennial and Lugano International Competition. He participated in numerous national exhibitions and represented Turkey in International exhibitions, held several personal exhibitions, and was decorated with a lot of awards. He was the President of the ITU Presidency Fine Arts Department.

Very Good Turkish Original typescript document signed by Sadan Bezeyis. 30x22 cm. In Turkish. 1 p. Includes 20 lines. Dated Istanbul, November, 25, 1968. Bezeyis was a Turkish painter, sculptor and the president of the Turkish Contemporary Artists Society. His father is calligrapher Abdullah Bey. He graduated from Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy High Painting Department Nurullah Berk Workshop, which he started in 1945, in first place in 1951. He represented Turkey at the International Venice Biennale 1958. Paintings and sculptures of Bezeyis are included in many institutions and private collections in Turkey and worldwide.

A member registration receipt including Bezeyis' biographic information, with a title of 'Türkiye Yüksek Heykeltraslar Cemiyeti' [i.e. Turkey High Sculptors Society]. Dated Istanbul, April 22, 1972. A couple of punching holes. Bezeyis was a Turkish painter, sculptor, and the president of the Turkish Contemporary Artists Society. His father is calligrapher, Abdullah Bey. He graduated from Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy High Painting Department Nurullah Berk Workshop, which he started in 1945, in first place in 1951. He represented Turkey at the International Venice Biennale in 1958. Paintings and sculptures of Bezeyis are included in many institutions and private collections in Turkey and worldwide. Turkey High Sculptors Society was founded in 1948.

Seeking new forms of expression, Kaygun played a pioneering role in photography in Turkey. In the 1980s, when the term "interdisciplinary" was nonexistent in Turkey's photographic culture, Kaygun combined photography with disciplines as diverse as painting, graphics, and cinema, and explored new and surprising applications of photographic techniques. Seeking a contemporary interpretation of the link between photography and other art forms, he continued to push the boundaries between various art disciplines in Turkey. Supported by detailed archival work, the exhibition spans the whole of Kaygun's career from his early experimental intervention in photography in the 1980s, when he produced Turkey's first Polaroid work, through to his final years. Parallel to the artist's technical exploration, in which he added layers onto photographs, the exhibition traces Kaygun's narrative on the boundaries of consciousness between dream and reality through themes of life and death. The political atmosphere of the 1980s led to a period of individual crisis and introversion that can be sensed in his art. Kaygun's work from this period, which is included in the exhibition, manifests the spiritual state of the time from a personal standpoint. Sahin Kaygun started earning a living by painting when he was in high school. In 1969, he began studying graphic arts at the State University of Applied Fine Arts in Istanbul. For Kaygun, who developed an artistic interest in photography during his university years, graphics and photography were two fields that nourished and completed one another. Kaygun's Polaroid series represented his first attempt at manipulating photographs. Works from this series have been included in the International Polaroid Collection and exhibited in major museums and art institutions.
