In English. Series: A Golden look-look book; Abstract: "Mario and Luigi are repairing the palace's pipes while King Koopa traveled down the corridor intending to kidnap Princess Peach. Mario tries to fight King Koopa off by using his Super Mario form but is defeated. Luigi saves Mario from King Koopa by using a Fire Flower. Afterwards the Mario Bros. tries to run off the Koopa Troop but instead fell into a deep pit. King Koopa also threw Peach into the pit and locked the exit. The Mario Bros. has to cooperate to escape the pit. Mario grows larger by eating a Mushroom allowing the to reach the top of the pit. Luigi uses the remaining fire in his Fire Flower to burn down the locked door. After their escape the Mario Bros. defeats King Koopa and drives him off. NY: G. Routledge & Co 1856. Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition. This is apparently the first printing/edition as we see no earlier ones listed. Gilt-illustrated & stamped as well as blind-stamped dark royal blue cloth. 636pp. About 600 illustrations as noted. Index. Previous owners' gift inscriptions on ffep referencing years 1969 & 1931. Worn at extremities else nice condition. We note that facing the title page is a pictorial title page that was apparently loose but then with margins slightly trimmed affixed glued to approximately matching paper color/card stock and that page tipped in. Facing it is the title page which was also loose but without margin loss bound back in. So probably the two leaves were loose and professionally repaired and bound back in. I see three leaves reinforced at the bottom. A good copy of an unusual for our times book that if used certainly would have kept a boy busy. Math natural history games what have you. Very scarce. G.
