In this work Hahnemann gives the history of 22 medicines and their application in chronic diseases. It is an indispensable complement to his "Organon". ‎This exceptional group of seven Real Photo Postcards chronicle the Honolulu Hawaii ninth annual Floral Parade in 1914 including images of the downtown parade route with McInerny’s Shoes and surrounding buildings bedecked in patriotic bunting and flags several floats including the Honolulu Fire Department’s first motorized fire engine and even the Iolani Palace lit up with lights.‎

Seven Real Photo Postcards all printed on split-back CYKO photo postcard stock and stamp box w/ outline CYKO imprint indicating 1906-1915 dating slight edgewear very slight dustsoiling still NF set of images. This scarce group of Real Photo Postcards chronicle some of the floats and events from the 1914 Floral Parade held on the 8th day of Carnival Feb. 21 1914 with the parade forming at Aala Park in the afternoon. The first shows bustling crowds a cleared street men women and families lined up along the street as the parade passes down the corner from McInerny’s Shoe Store with store front and window displays clearly shown in downtown Honolulu. The next series of cards depict the pyramid of children sitting on the Lincoln-Lee Legion float touting their lifelong temperance pledges to abstain from alcohol a large model wooden ship on the Inter-Island Transportation float another showing Lady Liberty on a Spanish War veterans float; along with a RPPC of the Honolulu Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1’s first motorized fire engine what appears to be a 1910 Knox High Pressure Hose Wagon fitted with ladders on the side cab-over configuration and large Brass lamps in front fitted with ladders and firemen riding in the parade. The RPPC of the Iolani Palace lit up at night with floodlights bringing out the architectural details and revealing all of the windows draped in American flags. n.p., unknown‎

Holmes began his medical career as a general practitioner but shifted into academics, becoming professor of anatomy and physiology at Dartmouth (1838-40), dean of Harvard Medical School (1847-82). He published two important medical lectures, including this one - promoting scientific discoveries in opposition to the practice of homeopathy, phrenology, and other `alternative' therapies. (The other was on the nature of fevers). His main fame though comes as a poet, novelist, biographer, and essayist. Most famous of these are `The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table' (1858) and several subsequent volumes where he presents imaginary conversations at a Boston boardinghouse, full of Holmes's urbane opinions, charm, and wit. Good.<br/><br/> The Massachusetts Medical Society preferred charges against Bushnell Fuller and six other physician members of the Society for "Conduct unbecoming and unworthy an honorable physician and member of this Society" i.e. practicing homeopathy. The Society's Board of Trial conducted the proceedings "at the Society's Rooms." The alleged miscreants purportedly sought to "disorganize and destroy" the Massachusetts Medical Society and to become members of the Massachusetts Homoeopathic Medical Society. A By-Law of the Massachusetts Medical Society prohibited any Member from professing "to cure diseases by Spiritualism Homoeopathy or Thompsonianism."<br/> With defendants protesting what they regarded as a kangaroo-court the trial proceeded. The detailed closing arguments for "the Accused" are printed here as well as summaries of the testimony. All editions are extremely rare.</p><p>Bound in a contemporary wallet binding modified to hold medicine. A rare complete set comprising a Spanish homeopathy handbook for families together with homeopathic remedies prepared by the Somolinos pharmacy of Madrid the first homeopathic pharmacy in Spain. </p><p>A fascinating witness to the diffusion and implementation of Hahnemann's theories. Inside the front board there is a carrier for 23 glass vials. A separate related box also issued by the Somolinos pharmacy with a wooden carrier for 45 additional vials is included. <i>Almost all of the small glass vials still contain homeopathic substances.</i></p><p>The inventor of homeopathic theory was the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann 1756-1843 who according to the principle of 'similia similibus curantur' held that the agent that <i>causes </i>an ailment should be administered in heavily diluted form to patients who suffered from that ailment.</p><p>Homeopathy did not take root on a large scale in Spain where there were very few homeopathic doctors or pharmacists. Among the pharmacists who did prepare homeopathic medicines was Cesáreo Martín Somolinos 1827-1878 who set up his shop at 26 Calle Infantas in Madrid. Somolinos also made up and sold pocket homeopathic kits of the kind offered here some of which are preserved in the Museo de La Farmacia Hispana in Madrid.
