(table) - 6 ff. n. ch., 547 pp., 5 pp. errata2 vignettes de titre, 3 bandeaux par Cochin et 51 planches dépliantes (cartes et plans) gravées par Marvye, Bailleul, Aveline...Le marquis Jacques-François Chastenet de Puységur, maréchal de France (1655 - 1743) avait employé ses dernières années à réunir plusieurs traités qu’il avait composés sur l’art militaire. Peu satisfait de son travail, il fit brûler diverses copies. Son fils en retrouva une et fit paraître cet Art de la guerre en 1748 en format in-folio, puis en format in-4 en 1749. Le livre est dédié au roi. La partie de l’ouvrage qui concerne les notions militaires avait été écrite pour le duc de Bourgogne, et celle des marches d’armée pour l’éducation de Louis XV.Le fils de l’auteur, né en 1716, avait été instruit dans l’art de commander par son père. Nommé en 1738 colonel du régiment de Vexin, il s’était particulièrement distingué à la bataille de Fontenoy.Bel exemplaire, de la bibliothèque du comte Hubert de Bosredon de Combrailles (1771 - 1853) avec son ex-libris.
