‎Etudes préparatoires pour le décor intérieur d'une maison : des vues de la faune marine. Nous avons 15 dessins au crayon et à l'aquarelle sur papier. Chaque dessin mesure sans marges entre 8 x 16,5 cm et 8 x 71 cm. Sur un dessin on trouve cette note : "échelle 10%". Ces fresques étaient donc hautes de 80 cm et la plus longue de 7 mètres. Des indications au crayon donne la position des peintures dans la maison : porte d'entrée, porte de la salle à manger, porte wc, escalier, fenêtre. L'ensemble devait constituer un décor magique ! Ces dessins témoignent du goût de l'époque pour les fonds marins dont très peu de gens avaient alors idée. C'est grâce à l'ouverture d'aquariums publics que le grand public les découvrit. Plusieurs peintres connurent un grand succès en dévoilant ces "merveilles de la mer". Citons parmi les plus connus : Maturin Méheut, Jean-Francis Auburtin, auteur d'un décor "Le Fond de la Mer" dans l'amphithéâtre Milne-Edwards à la Sorbonne qui a aujourd'hui disparu; ou encore Léon Laugier qui a splendidement décoré une pièce de la "Maison de l'Océan", rue Saint-Jacques à Paris. Comme on peut s'y attendre pour des dessins préparatoires, ils ne sont pas signés. Papier un peu jauni. /// de //// Preparatory studies for the interior decoration of a house, featuring marine wildlife. We have 15 pencil and watercolor drawings on paper. Each drawing measures between 8 x 16.5 cm and 8 x 71 cm (without margins). One drawing has a note that says : scale 10%. The frescoes were therefore 80 cm high with the largest measuring 7 meters long. Pencil marks indicate the paintings' position in the house: front door, dining room door, toilet door, staircase, window. The whole thing must have been a magical setting! These drawings reflect the era's fascination with the underwater world, which was largely unknown at the time. It was thanks to the opening of public aquariums that the general public discovered them. Several painters enjoyed great success by unveiling these wonders of the sea. Among the best known are: Maturin Méheut, Jean-Francis Auburtin, creator of a decor called Le Fond de la Mer in the Milne-Edwards amphitheater at the Sorbonne, which no longer exists; and Léon Laugier, who splendidly decorated a room in the Maison de l'Océan on Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris. As might be expected for preparatory drawings, they are unsigned. Paper slightly yellowed.‎
