Black embossed cloth gilt lettering on spine 12 mo. 358 pp. Important account of the Army of the Potomac during the Peninsular campaign in Virginia by a correspondent of the Philadelphia Press. Owner's name ffep as follows: "Capt. John Jamison Co B 7th Reg. P.R.V.I" John Jamison or Jameson was Captain of Company B of the 36th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Company B was recruited in Perry County Pennsylvania as part of the 7th Pennsylvania Reserves. Jamison served as Captain from May 4 1861 until he was wounded at the Battle of Antietam September 14 1862. His Regiment was involved in most of the action during the Peninsular Campaign. Another owner's name bottom of title page and at the bottom of page 167. No other marks in book binding tight front hinge cracked but holding firmly. Covers show very light edge wear top and bottom of spine neatly reinforced. Book condition VG. George W. Childs hardcover

Arthur Barker 1966. 8vo. First Edition with numerous plates and 4 maps one double-page in the text; red cloth gilt back a very good clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Cookridge and Foot were the two pioneer historians of SOE in Europe and both their accounts have stood the test of time. Whilst the latter's SOE in France 1966 had official blessing Cookridge's work is perhaps the more accessible. If nothing else they launched a minor industry of scholarship and given that they were writing before the release of the 'Ultra' papers and the SOE files in general performed a very creditable role. 1930. 1930. Very good. - Sepia-toned magazine portrait 3 inches high by 2-1/2 inches wide mounted on a piece of cream-colored card approximately 4-3/4 inches high by 3 inches wide. Signed in black ink on the mount below the portrait: "R. E. Coontz / Admiral US Navy / Retired / 1930." The mount is lightly soiled. Very good. <p>The head-and-shoulders portrait shows the elderly admiral swimming in a slightly choppy sea.<p>Robert Edward Coontz 1864-1935 was an admiral in the United States Navy. During the Spanish-American War Coontz and his ship the Charleston siezed control of Guam then joined Admiral George Dewey's forces in the Philippines. He was Governor of Guam in 1912-13. In 1919 he was appointed Chief of Naval Operations. While wrestling with financial problems new technologies pressure from Congress and the naval fallout from the Teapot Dome scandal Coontz established a unified United States Fleet and strengthened the CNO's position within the Navy Department. 1930. unknown

<p>Philadelphia: Frank Desilver 1846. 10 303 pages. Rebound in brown cloth sometime in the 20th century. Samuel Cooper was one of the few Northern West Point graduates who resigned to join the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Immediately appointed Brigadier General later full general he became Adjutant & Inspector General CSA and was the senior ranking officer in the CSA throughout the Civil War. He accompanied Jefferson Davis when he fled Richmond at the end of the war. But he also preserved the official CSA records and turned them over to Federal authorities; they became part of the Official Records published in the early 1890s. The book offered here first published in 1936 was widely used and and revised several times prior to 1860. This "New Edition" published in 1846 included "additions and improvements." The binding is in virtually as new condition. Pages are toned and foxed but all text is quite legible; first 15 leaves have a chip in bottom margin that is a result of an old acidic stain. <p>Washington DC: Unpublished 1845. Undated letter handwritten and SIGNED by Major Samuel Cooper to John Holmes Offley with Offley's reply dated 31 January 1845 on the verso.
