‎London: Hutchinson & Co. Good with no dust jacket. 1935. Presumed First UK Edition. Hardcover. In the original Blue boards with gilt titling to the spine. No dust-jacket. The boards are generally clean with a little light wear - mainly to the head/tail of the spine an indent across the word 'Front' on the spine and a small split to the rear top edge of the spine. Undated but NO Impression noted which likely indicates a 1st Edition. There is also a Catalogue at the end of the book for "Hutchinson's Important New Books for the Spring 1935" which lists this book. Generally clean page fore-edgs with the odd scattered pale spot - negligible. Probably lacks a plain blank front free end paper as the book starts at the half-title. NO Inscriptions or Marks. The odd tiny very occasional spot inside but overall VERY Clean internally. 298 pp 24 pp Catalogue at the end as noted above. A b/w portrait frontispiece of the Author and 23 other b/w plates/photo illustrations including facsimile documents etc 1 folding Index. "Memoirs of a Daily Mail War Correspondent who was one of the first to reach the Western Front in 1914. An excellent volume of recollections by a man who as a young reporter for the Daily Mail saw much of the war on many fronts. Head of the Paris bureau during World War I. He is reported to have set a record by reporting World War I from at least 17 countries by 1918 including Egypt Albania Greece Italy Austria Belgium and France. Se fondant sur un dépouillement original des comptes rendus officiels de la Ligue des droits de l'homme et faisant une synthèse des travaux universitaires sur le pacifisme dans la CGT et dans la SFIO, l'auteur nous donne un ouvrage vivant et utile : les principaux débats sur l'organisation de la paix, les rapports avec l'URSS et l'Allemagne y sont rappelés, tandis que sont évoqués quelques-uns des hommes qui se retrouvèrent au cœur de ces débats : Victor Basch, Félicien Challaye, Michel Alexandre dont les portraits s'inspirent de travaux récents. (.) L'évocation de Simone Weil est décevante, d'autant plus que l'auteur ne nous la présente que comme pacifiste intégrale sans dire un mot de sa rupture avec le pacifisme après Munich. Si on aurait aimé que C. J. apporte quelques nuances dans l'équation pacifisme/collaboration et antifascisme/résistance, on ne peut que lui donner raison lorsqu'il montre que le pacifisme fut une des sources du collaborationnisme franco-allemand. Comme le révèle tristement son chapitre sur le pacifisme devant l'antisémitisme nazi, le pacifisme a contribué à obscurcir la conscience de gauche devant le phénomène totalitaire."
