Consisting of: 'The Book Of Common Prayer.'; 'The Holy Bible.' with maps; 'Alphabetical Index Of The Holy Scriptures.'; and ' A New Version Of The Psalms Of David.' 18pp./pp.148/12pp./pp.586/2pp./pp.188/pp.40/pp.75/3pp. . Polished black calf corners rubbed and bumped. Spine with 4 raised bands and gilt titles: "Holy Bible - Common Prayer". Marbled Endpapers. Neat dedication to front endpaper: "Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman from her Godmother A. M. C. August 2nd. 1863." The silver clasps are hallmarked for London 1863 the maker is Henry and Henry John Lias. Edward John Granet was born in August 1858 in Italy. He was educated at Eton and joined the Royal Artillery CDA 11th Division in 1878. He married Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman 1864-1933 and they had one child: Guy Edward Augustus Granet born in Ipswich 1887-1953. Guy had a distinguished military career receiving both the MC and DSO. His father; E. J. Granet saw service in Afghanistan Egypt and South Africa he then became a Military Attache serving in Stockholm Rome and Berne from 1911 until 1915. While in Gallipoli 1915 he was injured by shell splinters at Suvla Bay. He retired to Berne Switzerland for his convalescence and was promoted to Brigadier General 1915. However he died from his injuries 3 years later on 22nd October 1918 and was buried at Vevey St. Martin's Cemetery . He was awarded the Companion of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath CB. and was a member of Ubique Lodge No. 1789 the Masonic lodge of "the gunners" a military lodge of the province of London. Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman was born 1864 in Sunningdale Berkshire. She married Edward John Granet in 1885. Her Godmother was Adeline Mary Chapman 1847-1931. High quality modern black and white print an informal half-length war-date shot of Leppla and Grasser chatting in front of what appears to be a large government building.
