This Austrian painter sculptor and printmaker was a surrealist who has been described as "the first psychoanalytical painter" but it is for co-founding the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism in the late 1950s together with Ernst Fuchs Holfgang Hutter and several others that he's best remembered. Color PS 5 3/4" X 4" n.p. n.y. lightly pencilled February 1986 on verso. Near fine. Glossy heavy stock reproduction of Hausner's 1948 surrealist painting "Forum der Einwartsgewendeten Optik" from the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna signed large and bold in blue ballpoint along the blank lower margin. Faintly age toned. On letterhead of "Office of Morton Bliss & Co." Hiscock fulfills some unnamed request: "I acknowledge the honor of your request and comply with great pleasure." Boldly penned in brown ink. Quite strange that the seated U.S. Senator would be writing on letterhead of this banking firm founded by the man who in 1887 Hiscock defeated in the caucus for the New York senate seat -- former representative and ambassador and then- current vice president Levi P. Morton. Odd that -- and the significance if any is unclear. unknown
This Massachusetts businessman attorney and legislator served as president of several railroads in the late 19th century including the powerful Cleveland Cincinnati Chicago and St. Louis Railroad better known as the Big Four Railroad. The eighth wealthiest American of all time was a German-born lumber magnate who began his empire in Rock Island Illinois in 1856 starting as a night fireman at a sawmill and working his way up until he owned this sawmill then began adding more until the "Weyerhauser Syndicate" was enormous; he moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1900 where the firm still operates and is the world's largest timber seller. Partly-Printed Document Signed 1p 8 3/4" X 3 3/4" Rock Island IL 1881 November 15. Very good. Ornate check drawn on the Peoples National Bank printed in black on blue stock and featuring decorative border a variety of ornate typefaces and a steel-engraved vignette at left showing a puffing locomotive at a train station. The check has been made out to Weyerhaeuser in the amount of $25000 and is signed by the bank president Bailey Davenport. Davenport 1823-90 was the son of Davenport Iowa's murdered founding father fur trader/Indian agent/frontiersman Colonel George Davenport 1783-1845 and was himself a wealthy banker real estate entrepreneur and mayor of Davenport during the Civil War. On the check's verso Weyerhaeuser signs boldly adding "pat to the Order / of H C Putnam" above. Below this Putnam then signs. Henry Cleveland Putnam 1832-1912 was a Wisconsin lumber baron and philanthropist one of the founders of Eau Claire. Three more unidentified persons also sign below Putnam. Twenty-five thousand dollars was a huge sum of money in 1881. Real estate developer Davenport and Weyerhaeuser who also served on the board of directors of this bank surely had many and complex business dealings -- as Weyerhaeuser likewise also had with fellow lumber baron Putnam. Weyerhaeuser's syndicate was vast and he had arrangements with a large number of other lumber businesses. It's possible the transaction had to do with the purchase of timber lands but this warrants further research. In any case a unique and intriguing document. unknown

Accompanied by a 4-page German film program for the 1954 film "Drei Munzen im Brunnen" "Three Coins in the Fountain" 6�" X 9�". Very good. Mild edgewear. Heavily pictorial with front panel featuring her with co-stars Louis Jourdan Jean Peters Clifton Webb and others. unknown

Accompanied by a superb 7" X 9" glossy publicity photograph a head-and-shoulders 1986 portrait of a smiling silver-haired Zimbalist taken for the made-for-television film of Arthur Hailey's "Hotel." unknown

Addressed to Edward Peterson. Near fine. On his "S. Weir Mitchell M.D." letterhead Mitchell's secretary pens a letter on his behalf. In part: "Dr Mitchell has forwarded me some letters for reply as he is always out of the City at this time of the year. He strongly advises you to choose the University of Pennsylvania from which to get your degree. He is one of the Trustees of that institution. During the Civil War he was on duty at the Christian St Hospital." Appears to be signed "MBC. / sec'y." With original envelope. An interesting curiosity. unknown

"Hi-yo Silver! Away!" Popular "B" movie actor Moore parlayed the "Lone Ranger" serial 1914-99 into a lifelong role. Signature and Inscription on an irregular roughly heptagon-shaped slip approximately 5" X 3�" n.p. 1957. "'Kemo Sabay' / The Lone Ranger / Clayton Moore / 1957" penned large and bold in blue ballpoint. Very good. Three small scotch tape stains at three points one touching the large paraph Moore pens below the year. "Kemo Sabay" was how the Lone Ranger addressed Tonto early on though later Tonto addressed the Long Ranger with this phrase of debated and dubious Native American origin. "Kemo Sabay" was the earlier spelling used as well; later it was simplified to "Kemo Sabe." A nice vintage example from the height of his fame. Accompanied by a handsome 5" X 7" black and white glossy photograph showing Moore and Silverheels in costume horseback against a rocky western terrain with preprinted nonauthentic signature/inscription at lower right. unknown
