Fiasco
br. Dato alle stampe alle soglie dei grandi mutamenti del 1989, "Fiasco" è imbevuto di uno dei più grandi timori dell'uomo dell'est europeo: il fallimento della libertà, che si presenta, dall'altra parte del muro, come il fallimento della ricerca della felicità. Un fallimento, un fiasco, in cui si riconosce anche lo scrittore. Imre Kertész, nato a Budapest nel 1929, deportato ad Auschwitz e liberato a Buchenwald nel 1945, ha vinto il Premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 2002. Kertész impiegò circa dieci anni a scriere "Essere senza destino" (pubblicato in Ungheria nel 1975 e ignorato fino alla fine degli anni Ottanta), il primo capitolo dell'ideale trilogia che prosegue con "Fiasco" (1988) e "Kaddish per un bambino non nato" (1989).

Forse a causa di un tentativo di violenza subita quando era piccola (ma di cui non conserva alcun ricordo cosciente), Séverine ha una vita sessuale problematica, tra frigidità e desideri al limite della perversione. Un giorno scopre che una donna appartenente al suo stesso ambiente ha deciso di fare la prostituta in una casa d'appuntamenti in rue Virène. La notizia la turba e la intriga al tempo stesso. Come attirata da una forza irresistibile, Séverine si reca in rue Virène. Dopo un primo momento di naturale imbarazzo e dopo qualche indecisione, la giovane donna prende un impegno con la tenutaria Anaïs: incontrerà i clienti ogni pomeriggio dalle 14 alle 17. Pomeriggio dopo pomeriggio prende forma la doppia vita di Séverine. L'azzardo di vivere due esistenze parallele regge per un po' di tempo, fino al giorno in cui tutte le precauzioni di Séverine vanno in briciole.

Born 2 May 1856 in Louisville KY and died Toronto 1939. 1878 graduate of honour course in Modern Languages with History. The lectureship in Rhetoric and English Literature is established in 1884 at University College with David Reid Keys as lecturer. Keys became an associate professor at University of Toronto in 1902 and identified himself strongly with Canadian nationalism. His sister was Florence Valentine Keys 1869-1951. unknown

br. Un racconto che inscena sullo sfondo di un'estate afosa e di un'avita dimora di campagna il difficile rapporto di un adolescente con il padre. Strenuo tutore dell'ordine, moralista della bellezza e dell'impeccabilità rappresentativa, il padre è da Bill ammirato, temuto, di continuo spiato. Con goffa curiosità, cui presto subentrano sgomento e paura, Bill vede compiersi, nello spettrale sgranarsi dei rituali dell'alta società, la tragedia di una passione non consentita fra il genitore e la cugina Ellitta. La morte si rivelerà per l'uomo sopraffatto dalla passione l'unica garante della "tenue" aristocratica. E solo di fronte al distacco altero, alla quiete del suicida, in Bill si scioglierà ogni oppressione: l'iniziazione alla vita è compiuta.
