‎Leicht berieben, ansonsten tadelloser Zustand - Dieses Buch hätte wohl wie kaum ein anderes mithelfen können, den Zweiten Weltkrieg zu verhindern, wäre es in Deutschland und in Europa gebührend zur Kenntnis genommen worden. Erschienen ist es bereits 1934 in Paris in dem von Willi Münzenberg gegründeten Veriagsunternehmen »Editions du Carrefour«. Als Herausgeber zeichnete Dorothy Woodman, Sekretärin der englischen Union für demokratische Kontrolle. Hinter Dorothy Woodman aber verbarg sich Albert Schreiner, der 1933 nach Paris emigrierte Militärpolitiker der KPD. Was Schreiner, Sohn eines baden-württembergischen Metallarbeiters. zusammen mit einigen anderen, in dem Buch an sensationellem Material zusammengetragen hat, stützte sich auf Berichte illegaler Kämpfer in Deutschland und auf Veröffentlichungen in nazistischen Fachzeitschriften. Das Werk verschafft einen einmaligen Einblick in die materielle und geistige Kriegsvorbereitung im Inneren des faschistischen Deutschland, in den Aufbau der Kriegsproduktion sowie die Rüstung des Heeres, der Luftwaffe und Marine. -- «Die Hitlerregierung«, so heißt es im Vorwort zu dem Buch, »von den Rüstungsinteressenten an die Macht gebracht - von jenen Rüstungsmagnaten, welche die Nazibewegung finanzierten - , macht rasende Anstrengungen, die Kriegsindustrien auf Kriegshöhe zu entwickeln und die Bevölkerung, besonders die Jugend, auf Kriegsbereitschaft zu mobilisieren.« Das Werk stellt in der Tat die erste umfassende Enthüllung der Kriegspläne des Hitlerregimes dar. Es wurde zuerst in deutscher Sprache veröffentlicht und gelangte über verschiedene Wege nach Deutschland. Die offene Darlegung der fachistischen Kriegspolitik war damals ein zwingendes Gebot der Stunde, eine Tat für den Frieden und eine bedeutende antifaschistische Tat. -- Im Jahre 1936 ging Albert Schreiner mit der ersten Gruppe deutscher Kommunisten nach Spanien. »Bereichert durch die Erfahrungen an den verschiedensten Fronten des spanischen Bürgerkrieges«, schreibt der Autor in seinen am Schluß dieses Buches veröffentlichten Erinnerungen?, »nahm ich nach meiner Rückkehr nach Paris im Jahre 1938 sofort meinen alten Plan wieder auf.« Im April 1939 - einige Monate vor Kriegsausbruch - erschien im Verlag »Prométhée« sein Buch »Vom totalen Krieg zur totalen Niederlage Hitlers. Eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Wehrmachtsideologie des Dritten Reiches«. Das Buch diente zur politischen Orientierung der Hitlergegner und war als Handlungsanleitung für den Fall gedacht, daß es nicht gelingen sollte, den Krieg zu verhindern. Auch dieses Buch wird in Kürze als Gemeinschaftsausgabe im Pahl-Rugen-stein Verlag und im Röder berg-Verlag erscheinen. ? Beide Bücher von Albert Schreiner, das 1934 und das 1939 erschienene, eignen sich hervorragend zur Information über Charakter und Methoden des deutschen Faschismus; beide Bücher sind markante Zeugnisse deutschen antifaschistischen Widerstandes. -- Die Emigration führte Albert Schreiner von Frankreich über Marokko in die USA. The constructive work undertaken by the ORT is mostly confined to Eastern Europe in this report, with the majority of activity being conducted in Lithuania, the Soviet Union, Poland, and Romania (with reports on Birobidjan and France as well) . Includes large fold out chart displaying the “Geographical Distribution of the Activities of the ORT-Union in 1937”, with 11 pages of charts detailing the training and assistance by country (in this period the ORT still maintained an office in Berlin, and was able to have a dayschool for juveniles in locksmithing and engineering, and plumbing and gas workshops for adults, however, the total number of Berlin Jews was 114) . ‎1st Bergen-Belsen edition. Original boards with gilt lettering. 8vo. 160 pages. 21 cm. In Hebrew. Title translates to “Teachings of the School of Elijah. ” This edition was reprinted from the Warsaw, 1874 edition printed by Yitzhak Goldman. Bergen-Belsen was the largest displaced persons (DP) camp in Germany and was the center of Jewish DP political and social activity in the British zone of occupation. The camp was established in July 1945 near the concentration camp after the British burned the camp barracks during liberation. In 1946, the DP camp housed over 11, 000 Jews. Survivors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp organized political, cultural, and religious activities just weeks after liberation. The DPs of Bergen-Belsen also created and maintained a lively cultural life and published Unzer Shtimme (Our Voice) , the main Jewish newspaper of the British zone. By the middle of 1950, the camp was nearly empty; the last DPs left in August 1951. The majority of Bergen-Belsen's DPs emigrated to Israel. Many others went to the United States and Canada (USHMM, 2018) . SUBJECTS: Displaced Persons. OCLC lists 5 copies online, three of which are in Israel and two of which are in Germany.
