Raro numero del 5 luglio 1815 della rivista Il Cracas diario di Roma rivista dedicata alla cronaca ed avvenimenti di Roma. La rivista fino al 1894 pubblicò in breve o per esteso gli avvenimenti religiosi, politici e militari della città e le notizie che ad essa pervenivano dall'Italia o dall'estero, diventando una ricchissima ed importante fonte di notizie. La rivista è contenuta all'interno di una custodia cartonata con un appunto del vecchio proprietario "Rarità. Diario di Roma del 5 luglio 1815 in cui viene annunciata la sconfitta napoleonica a Waterloo". Numero di interesse storico. Oltre a questa notizia di rilievo anche le battaglie della Francia in Valle D'Aosta. In buone condizioni. Copertina morbida coeva in discrete condizioni generali con usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni ma corpo del libro in parte staccato. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture. In 24.13,5x6,5 cm. The magazine is contained inside a carton case with an handwritten note of the former owner "Very scarce. There is the indication of defeat of Napoleon in Waterloo". Number of hystorical interest. In good conditions. Soft coeval cover in fair conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions but the body of the book partially detached. Original decorated printed wraps. Moses Finzi Lobo was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies (1834). He came to Philadelphia about 1845, and lived there until his death (1904). He was a respected journalist, scholar, author, and leader in community affairs. His skill and knowledge of shorthand was exceptional, and he was frequently called upon to record scientific addresses, and other important events. He served as private secretary to the Superintendent of the Mint, before resigning that post to engage in literary work. We feel fortunate to be able to present Short-Hand books owned by him. A marvelous crisp boudoir sized albumen photograph of a Linn County brass band’s Sunday excursion to Waterloo Falls with band members in uniforms including one woman holding a cornet and surrounding onlookers.
Waterloo Falls OR: n.p. June 8 1890. Oblong 8vo. 1 boudoir sized albumen photo sized 8 x 4.5 in. mounted on studio board 8.5 x 5 in. w/ pencil annotations indicating location date and very faintly a few of the participants although without last names indicated minor toning shelfwear still VG bright image. At the time this photo was shot there was a concerted push by business leaders and local citizenry pushing for an electric excursion train to the Waterloo Falls 1889-1890 along the South Santiam River as seen by articles published periodically in the Lebanon Express newspaper. The image is a striking shot with the band members and family members strewn about seated on the rocks next to the river during late Spring runoff and the Falls. Contemporary images of Waterloo Falls and the South Santiam River area are fairly uncommon and the caption refers to Andrew John S.B. Walter and George standing near “me.†n.p., unknown

The work is an important document of early nineteenth-century historical memory and Dutch national identity surrounding the victory over Napoleon and the role of the Prince of Orange at Waterloo.Original blue paper binding with smudges octavo edition 18 x 11 cm. NL Zeldzame beschrijvende uitgave bij het beroemde panoramische schilderij van de Slag bij Waterloo door Jan Willem Pieneman uitgegeven te Amsterdam omstreeks 1825 door C.A. Spin. Het werk diende als gids of toelichting voor bezoekers van het monumentale historiestuk dat kort na de Napoleontische oorlogen grote publieke belangstelling trok. Het schilderij was langere tijd een van de belangrijkste werken van het Museum van Levende Nederlandsche Meesters in Haarlem. Tod-Mercer and dated 1896. 8vo in a beautiful Zaehnsdorf signed binding dated 1896 thus no doubt custom made for the presentation to George E. Mercer. The binding is of full crushed scarlet morocco richly adorned in fine late-Victorian style. The boards feature a wide frame of gilt vines flowers and thistles which is further ruled in gilt then further surrounded by minutely detailed gilt rolling the upper boards also lettered “Mercer’s Waterloo†in fine gilt stamping the smooth rounded spines with gilt lettering with a gilt oval surrounded by more gilt vines and flowers which then grow both up and below to fully frame the spine panel board edges gilt ruled wide turn-ins gilt tooled in the same motif as the covers silk endpapers with powder blue moire pattern and further gilt tooling complete this beautiful presentation a.e.g. xii 369; viii 347 pp. An extraordinary set the condition remains outstanding. The text-block is essentially pristine the fine bindings show only the most minimal evidence of age. Truly and outstanding and unique copy. A SCARCE AND IMPORTANT FIRST EDITION SCARCE IN ANY STATE AND THIS AN EXTRAORDINARY COPY. Mercer's ‘Journal’ is an important source for historians of the Waterloo campaign as well as a detailed description of the landscape and people of Belgium and France in the early 19th century. It is one of the few accounts of the period written by an artillery officer. Mercer’s journals were kept throughout the campaign of 1815 but were not published until 1870 after his death. The work was compiled and written in its finished form some 30 years earlier from the original notes Mercer wrote contemporaneously with additions and verifications from correspondence and other sources. It covers the period from April 1815 to January 1816. Although he eventually rose to the rank of general his fame is as commander of the British G Troop Royal Horse Artillery in the thick of the fighting at the Battle of Waterloo. It is also notable for its lengthy descriptions of the countryside and its people.<br> In spite of his position with the British Army the work is usually found in 20th Century editions in French.
