Horace Vernet - Ensemble de 7 lithographies Vie militaire sous l’Empire 1810/25 Ensemble de 7 lithographies d'époque sur papier fort, Vie militaire sous l’Empire, d'après Horace Vernet, dont trois gravées par François-Séraphin Delpech (1778-1825), graveur et lithographe français actif à Paris dans les premières décennies du XIXᵉ siècle. Les autres lithographies ne portent pas de mention de graveur. Faisant partie d'un bel ensemble de lithographies sur papier fort avec de belles marges conservées, d'après Carle et Horace Vernet, illustrant leurs thèmes de prédilection : Les chiens, la chasse, les chevaux, l'armée Napoléonienne sous l'Empire, le romantisme, la guerre, entre autres. Ces œuvres, réalisées au début du XIXᵉ siècle, témoignent de la virtuosité de deux artistes majeurs de la peinture française, qui furent aussi parmi les précurseurs de la lithographie en France. Carle Vernet (1758-1836), peintre d’histoire et de genre, s’est illustré par ses scènes équestres et militaires, et par son sens aigu du mouvement et du détail. Horace Vernet (1789-1863), son fils, poursuivit cette tradition familiale avec une approche plus romantique et réaliste. Plusieurs lithographies de cet ensemble ont été gravées par Delpech, Engelmann et d’autres imprimeurs renommés de la première moitié du XIXᵉ siècle. Dimensions de la feuille : 35 x 26 cm. Horace Sébastiani (1772-1851), militaire corse, maréchal de France, diplomate. Manuscrit autographe, Bastia, 14 janvier 1824, 1/4p in-4 en marge d'un imprimé 4p in-4. Intéressant et important texte politique au moment des législatives de 1824 (qui eurent lieu les 25 février et 6 mars 1824). Ce texte, imprimé - en français et en corse - dans une première version à Marseille, aurait dû être réimprimé en Corse. Sébastiani caviarde plusieurs lignes, apporte deux corrections et précise alors : « L'impossibilité de faire réimprimé cette lettre à Bastia ne m'a permis pour toute correction que d'en bâtonner quelques lignes ; j'aurais voulu y ajouter quelques développements utiles peut-être à la Corse, j'avais surtout besoin de dire qu'en tout ce qui a été fait de bien par la députation dont j'étais membre, le concours de mon honorable collègue a été aussi constant que fructueux. Toute la Corse sait qu'il a rempli les fonctions de député de manière à mérite son estime et sa gratitude ». Le collègue auquel il fait référence est André Ramolino (1767-1831) qui siégeait avec lui dans l'opposition. Sébastiani, victime d'une campagne de Villèle contre lui, ne fut pas réélu en 1824. En revanche, il le sera de 1828 à 1848, avec une brève coupure à la fin de la Restauration. On joint un imprimé « Copie d'une lettre écrite au rédacteur . du journal politique » (23 août 1830, juste après les législatives). 4p in-8, imprimerie Fabiani à Bastia. On joint un imprimé, lettre aux électeurs de l'arrondissement de Bastia, 15 août 1831 (juste après les législatives). On joint un manuscrit, 3p in-4, « Note du général Sébastiani pour LL CC le Garde des Sceaux & le Ministre de l'Intérieur ». Copie d'un autre main, non datée. Très intéressant ensemble autour de la Corse. [501]

Washington DC: April 9 1925. 1925. Very good. - Letter penned in black ink & filling all 4 sides of a sheet of letterhead folded once to form 4 black-bordered sides each 6-3/4 inches high by 5-1/8 inches wide. The address where Hoskins is staying is printed at the top. Signed "Reginald Hoskins". There is a light paper-clip mark to the top edge of each side & the recipient's "date answered" stamp is is on the first side at top right. Folded once for mailing. Together with a sample brochure promoting a previous Hoskins lecture tour. Also with a carbon copy of the recipient's reply. Near fine. <p>Hoskins writes to J.B. Pond of the Pond Lecture Bureau following up on their discussion of a possible American lecture tour. He is about to leave for London and wonders if the financial arrangements will make it feasible for him to return for an extended tour. "I know that it is not easy to foresee with any certainty what sort of a success financially can be made and you quite understood my disinclination to return on an off chance."<p>Major-General Sir Arthur Reginald Hoskins 1871-1942 was a senior British Army officer during the First World War. Hoskins served in the army from 1891 to 1923. Prior to World War I he saw active service In in the Dongola Expedition the Mahdist War the Second Boer War and the Somaliland Campaign. In September 1914 he was recalled from East Africa where he was acting as Inspector of the Kings Africa Rifles and joined the 8th Division then engaged on the Western Front. He was given command of the 8th Brigade in 1915 and in early 1916 was transferred to the East African Campaign. He became Commander-in-Chief of British Forces in East Africa in 1917 later serving as commander of the 3rd Lahore Division in Mesopotamia and Palestine for the remainder of the war.
