‎3 1 326=325 1; 1 1 blank XX pp.Second edition considerably expanded of a field guide to Mesopotamia Iraq published on behalf of the General Staff in India for the use of officers serving in the Mesopotamian campaign during the First World War stating on the binding and title-page "for official use only". The guide is divided into eight chapters dealing with Iraq's history geography population resources military strength maritime power administration and communication respectively. The fifth and sixth chapter also contain valuable information on the Turkish military and maritime strength. The present edition adds much new information that was not included in the 1915 edition. For example the "list of routes" in the present guide contains 36 routes between compared to 14 routes in the 1915 guide. The routes are shown on the folding map.With the owner's inscription of H.W. Leatham Lieutenant in the British Royal Army Medical Corps on the first flyleaf. A few small spots or stains. Binding only very slightly rubbed. Overall in very good condition. unknown‎

‎*Wenzel Messenhauser war ein österreichischer Offizier und Schriftsteller böhmischer Herkunft. Nachdem er im Wiener Oktoberaufstand 1848 zusammen mit anderen Aufständischen (u.a. Alfred Julius Becher, Robert Blum, Hermann Jellinek etc.) vergeblich die Stadt Wien verteidigt hatte, ergab er sich am 30. Oktober 1848 den angreifenden Truppen des Feldmarschalls Windisch-Graetz. Als er danach den Kampf trotzdem wieder aufnahm, wurde er wegen Bruch der Kapitulation zusammen mit Robert Blum standrechtlich erschossen. - Sauber und gut erhalten.‎

‎"L'histoire maritime a fait depuis vingt ans de grands progrès : voici un petit livre fort savant, d'une grande maîtrise, qui touche à l'histoire diplomatique, à l'histoire stratégique, à l'histoire économique ; une bataille navale est le fruit de préparatifs fort longs, d'une logistique coûteuse (la bataille de Béveziers engageait 4600 canons français contre 3850 canons des alliés, 28000 hommes contre 23000...). Tourville n'exploita pas sa victoire, malheureusement." (La Revue administrative, 1993) — “Béveziers” est issu d’une recherche collective cherchant à dégager, autant que possible, les arrière-plans politiques, économiques, tactiques et matériels de cette victoire trop oubliée. Par là ce livre se veut une étape dans la connaissance d’une aventure qui a mis en place et en jeu des ressorts trop souvent occultés, ou que l’on ne soupçonne pas. Pas question, certes, de nier les aléas de la bataille, les insuffisances ou le génie des hommes, le courage de tous : la bataille navale de l’époque – des deux bords – est cependant d’abord le résultat d’un immense travail collectif de “logistique”, réalisé au prix d’investissements d’envergure... que l’on connaît encore très mal. Mittig Männer in einer Versuchswerkstatt mit der Herstellung von Waffen und Schießpulver beschäftigt. Seitlich jeweils 2 kleine Bilder in oval mit den lateinischen Titeln: Rapta Polo funesta solo; Trutinando perfict artem; Vastas valeo perrumpere moles; Obvia dissipo flammâ. Unter den Bildern in 5 Spalten und jeweils 6 Zeilen gereimte Texte zu Feuer, Feuernutzung, Metallverarbeitung und Waffenherstellung. - Die Constaffel war ein Zusammenschluss nach Berufen und Militaria. Später erfolgte die Umbenennung in Gesellschaft der Constabler und Feuerwerker. - Johannes Meyer der Jüngere 1655 - 1712, Zeichner, Maler Radierer, Kupferstecher in Zürich. - Das Papier fleckig, die Kolorierung laienhaft mit wenigen Farben und nur auf einige Motive beschränkt. Der Druck jedoch klar und kraftvoll. Trotz der deutlichen Mängel ein interessantes, besonderes Blatt.‎
