‎"Jusqu'ici on ne possédait que quelques monographies sur les contingents fournis par différents départements pour former les régiments de gardes d'honneur, dont l'existence éphémème dura une année seulement, en 1813 et 1814. Le docteur Lomier, auteur déjà d'un beau volume consacré aux Marins de la Garde (1803-1815), nous donne aujourd'hui un remarquable travail d'ensemble sur cette question si peu et si mal connue. Grâce à lui, nous savons maintenant dans quelles conditions ont été formés ces quatre régiments, quelle était leur composition, comment ils s'organisèrent, quelle fut enfin leur histoire, histoire administrative et histoire militaire, courte mais glorieuse. S'il est permis de formuler une critique, il est regrettable pour les travailleurs à qui ce livre est appelé à rendre grand service, que leurs recherches dans cet ouvrage si fortement documenté ne soient pas facilitées par une table onomastique, qui serait d'autant plus précieuse, étant donné le grand nombre de personnages dont on retrouve les noms."
