Jäger-Division wurde vorerst als sogenannte ?leichte Infanterie-Division" aufgestellt und wie fast alle der zuletzt insgesamt 11 Jäger-Divisionen im Südabschnitt der Ostfront, auf der Krim, im Kaukasus, in den Karpaten und am Balkan eingesetzt. Die 100. Jäger-Division wardie einzige Jäger-Division die im Kessel von Stalingrad kämpfte ? und unterging. Nach der Neuaufstellung wurde sie am Balkan, in Kroatien und Albanien zur Partisanenbekämpfung und zum Küstenschutz an der Straße von Otranto eingesetzt und im weiteren Verlauf des Krieges wieder an die Ostfront geworfen. Bei der ersten Aufstellung der Division kamen zwei Drittel ihrer Männer aus Österreich, ein Drittel waren in der Hauptsache Schlesier. Im späteren Kriegsverlauf waren fast alle Landsmannschaften des Deutschen Reiches in ihr vertreten. Ein Mehrfaches ihrer Gesamtstärke fiel in den viereinhalb Kriegsjahren ihres Bestehens, fast 6000 ihrer Soldaten gelten heute noch als vermißt. " (Verlagstext) // " ... Nach kurzer Feuervorbereitung erfolgt um 16.00 Uhr der Angriff auf Petschara, das sich als völlig feindfrei erweist und ohne Widerstand von der AA. besetzt wird. Da beide Brücken bei Rogosna und Petschara besetzt werden sollen, verbleibt die AA. mit zugeteilter Sturmgeschützabteilung, außer zwei Sturmgeschützen, in Petschara, während die VA. Rogosna fest in ihre Hand nimmt. Das Tagesziel war somit erreicht. Feindliche Einwirkungen haben so gut wie aufgehört und die Nacht verläuft ruhig. In den frühen Morgenstunden des 19. Juli ist zunächst von Feindeinwirkung nichts zu merken. Erst gegen 9.00 Uhr treffen Meldungen über feindliche Panzer ein, die zwischen Rogosna und Petschara auftreten und dort Einzelfahrzeuge angreifen. Da hiebei Fahrzeuge der Sturmartillerie in Mitleidenschaft gezogen werden, wird ein starker Stoßtrupp - bestehend aus einem Sturmgeschütz, zwei Paks und einem MG - entsandt, diese Fahrzeuge herauszuholen und mitzubringen. Bevor dieses Unternehmen zur Durchführung kommt, verdichten sich aber die Meldungen über feindliche Panzer und gleichzeitig meldet die AA., daß sie in Petschara von Südwesten von 13 Panzern angegriffen wird. Auch entlang der Vormarschstraße (Höhe 265) werden feindliche Panzer gemeldet, so daß allmählich der Eindruck entsteht, es doch nicht mit feindlichen Sicherungskräften zu tun zu haben. Diese Ansicht verstärkt sich, als gegen 10.00 Uhr die AA. um Feuer gegen die Straße von Südwesten nach Petschara und die dort gelegenen Waldstücke bittet, wo sich feindliche Panzer und Infanterie bereitstellen. Mit Rücksicht auf die Munitionslage kann dieses erbetene Feuer nur mit wenigen Schuß der 10. Batterie erfüllt werden, die aber, da direkt beobachtet, gute Wirkung haben. Ein fast gleichzeitig eingehender Hilferuf der 11. Batterie nach Munition beweist die sich zuspitzende Lage in Petschara. Um zunächst die Lage dort zu klären und Entlastung zu bringen, erhält der oben erwähnte Stoßtrupp Auftrag, in die Flanke des Gegners vorzustoßen, das feindliche Vorgehen möglichst zum Stehen zu bringen und Klarheit über die dortigen Verhältnisse zu schaffen. Während dieses Unternehmen durchgeführt wird und gleichzeitig durch Feuerabgabe der 10. Batterie versucht wird der AA. zu helfen, wird um 13.00 Uhr das Vorgehen feindlicher Infanterie etwa in Stärke einer Kompanie in Richtung auf Rachny gemeldet. Kurz darauf stärkere Bewegungen auf der Straße vier Kilometer südlich Ulyshka. Gegen 15.00 Uhr hat sich die Lage so entwickelt, daß der Angriff gegen die AA. zwar zum Stehen gebracht, im übrigen aber der Angriff stärkerer feindlicher Kräfte erkennbar ist, um die für ihren Rückzug lebenswichtigen Brücken wieder in die Hand zu bekommen. ? ‎*Horatio Nelson war ein britischer Admiral der Royal Navy, der u.a. durch seinen Sieg in der legendären Schlacht von Trafalgar (1805) in die Geschichte einging. Seine überlegenen und siegreichen Strategien und Taktiken im Kampf auf See ließen ihn schon zu Lebzeiten zu einer Berühmtheit werden. Nelson war bekannt dafür, dass er seine Untergebenen mit Ideen inspirierte und aus ihnen das Beste herausholte: Dies führte zu dem bis heute geflügelten Wort ?The Nelson Touch?. Nelson siegte in der Schlacht am Trafalgar Square (1805) gegen die zahlenmäßig überlegene französische Marine, aber es traf ihn eine feindliche Gewehrkugel, an der er unmittelbar nach seinem Sieg verstarb.
