A catalogue of 25 Articles> with suitable punishments attached to each. Thus: Article VI:> 'There shall be no mercat nor selling of commodities whatsoever' during divine service. Punishment was confiscaion of goods sold. Article XI:> 'He that forceth any woman and the matter be proved he shall die for it. No whoore shall be suffered in the leaguer but if any will have his own wife with him he may. If any man keep an unmaried woman he shall either marrie her or be constrained to put her away and make his repentance for his fault'. Article XIV:> 'he that is taken sleeping upon the watch to the indangering of the armie shall be shot to death. In like sort shall e punished who drinks himself drunk upon his watch or place of sentinell that he cannot do his dewty �.'. Article XXII:> 'Billets and lodgings in every place must be directed by the quarter-master �� All must deal courteously with their haste and his houshold and servants: he that beats any of them for the first and second fault he shall be put in irones and made to fast with bread and water �.'. These Articles> evidently were to apply to the army of 16000 men formed by the 'Covenanters' and commanded by Alexander Leslie 1st Earl of Leven ca. 1580-1661. Color Illustrations; This book is in Fair condition only - The book is in complete generally decent condition but there's noticeable water spotting / tidemarking / warping to the boards and text pages. The interior is generally clean and neat. All the foldable maps are complete and in good condition. The pages are noticeably toned. The rear cover of the book has black spotting and there's a patch of pink / reddish discoloration looks like it was sitting next to a book with red covers and the water damage transferred the red ink from that one to this. The front pastedown page and front cover have a previous owner's ink stamped name and address. The front pastedown page also includes a previous owner's inked name and there are two ink stamped Chinese "Chop" marks. "The 2nd Engineer Regiment was deployed to the Mexican border prior to US involvement in the First World War. On the US entry to the war the 2nd Engineers deployed to the Western Front in France as the organic Engineering element of the 2nd Division. The regiment arrived in theater under strength. On December 15 1917 400 men from Companies D E and F of the 116th Engineers Idaho National Guard assigned to the 41st "Sunset" Division. The remainder of the 116th Engineers formed the cadre of new military training depot in Angers France. The 1st and 2nd battalions of the 2nd Engineers participated in the Battle of Belleau Wood in direct support of the 4th Marine Brigade of the US Army's 2nd Division.
