Introduction by General Hap Arnold Commanding General of the Army Air Forces Profusely illustrated with photographs drawings schematics diagrams some fold-out cutaways etc. Arguably the most famous aircraft of the Second World War the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the spearhead of the American daylight bombing offensive in Europe from beginning to end as well as serving in every other theatre of war. No single aircraft type contributed more to the defeat of the Luftwaffe which enabled tangible expression to be given to the controversial U. S. policy for the strategic assault of Germany by day in the face of formidable political argument as well as desperate enemy opposition. Few other aircraft of the war gained the universal affection of their aircrew over so long an operational periods did the B-17 Green . This manual served the dual purpose of training checklist and working handbook for B-17 pilot airplane commanders. In the 'Editor's Preface to the German and French Editions,' Frederick the Great's strategic prowess as displayed in these Instructions is described thus: "Here Frederic [sic] fully displays the art, by which he was so constantly victorious:?the manner of misleading the Enemy respecting the real point of attack?even the art of rapidly passing from the defensive to the offensive state, keeping in view all the chances of success. Roscoe, A385 (1) noting the Military Dictionary (running to 112pp., ) is an enlarged edition of a 35-page section of Flanders Deliniated, 1745 (Roscoe A157). The second half of the book is devoted to The Political History of Europe. Provenance: Early ownership inscription to front paste-down "Agnes Jameson - Book | Bramrey. 1799."‎

‎4to, (275 x 195mm), 18, 13-48, 52-91, 93-140, 133-148, 12, [2]pp., LARGE PAPER COPY, in addition there are two final leaves with manuscript additions for the 32 Regiment of Foot and the 36 Regiment of Foot, later half calf, rubbed, lacks spine, covers detached. Annual Army list to November, 1763. The pagination of this book is erratic to say the least: there are no pages 49, 50 or 51, page 52 follows p. 48, from thence onwards to p. 91 (38th Foot) inclusive, all the odd numbers are on the verso side, there is no page 91, page 93 (39th Foot) follows p. 91, and from thence to p. 140 the pagination is normal, a page numbered 133 (70 Companies of Marines) follows p. 140, and this continues to p. 148, thence follows 12 pages (succession of Colonels) and a final leaf (Additions since Printing). It seems the printer who set up this list, must have been a 'Dreamer'. Provenance: ex-ministry of Defence Library. ESTC (N62475) locates a single copy of this edition at the National Archives.‎

‎Folio (375 x 275 mm), 45 consecutively numbered lithographed plates, subjects include: tools, excavations, brickwork, flues, masonry, joints, doors, stairs, plumbing, etc., cont. calf, rubbed. The Corps of Royal Engineers, better known as the Royal Engineers (RE) or the Sappers, is part of the British Army. It provides military engineering and technical support to British armed forces around the world. Although the RE trace their history back to the military engineers who came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066, the origins of the modern RE date to the creation of a corps of engineers for the British army in 1716. Since then ? and among many other projects ? the RE has designed and built dams and reservoirs in British colonial India, the Rideau canal in Canada and naval and civilian ports in the UK. British military engineers have also been involved in many civilian projects. These include the construction of Pentonville prison in London in 1842 and world famous concert venue the Royal Albert Hall in 1871. Other well-known schemes include RE's construction of a naval dockyard at Richborough, near Sandwich in Kent. The port was used to supply British forces fighting in Europe in both World War 1 and World War 2. Having seen service in most of the conflicts British forces have been involved in, the modern Corps of Royal Engineers is now divided into several regiments.
