The condition is a bit rough with corners bent and curling some pencil marks to the front cover and a note one page indicating the previous owner's relation to one of the airmen. Soil and a pencilled notation to the tan rear cover. This book seems to have been written and produced by the members of Squadron 97X during the time of their stay on PEI for training. Flight Lieutenant E.F. Dobie and Flying Officer W.J. Birrell are listed as "Men Responsible" so they may have taken and editing hand to this pamphlet. Full page bio and pictures of 21 airmen along with a cartoon soccer match photo and description of a concert. Represented squadron members are Dobie Birrell Adams Allan Chapman Donelly Finnis Gowers Habgood Higgins Lee Lovell McCracken Owen Paris Reinstadtler Richardson Smart Spencer Stevenson Turner Williams and Woolley. A vintage gelatin silver photograph approximately 157 × 203 mm albeit missing a large blank piece from the bottom right-hand corner with a lengthy caption in ink on the verso along with the identities of many of those present. Minor creases a few marks and the loss to the corner notwithstanding a very interesting image in presentable condition. The caption mentions '2 Wireless Limbers 2 cable waggons & 3 G.S. Limbers as water carts'; the 10 motorcycles and two early motor vehicles are taken as read. Part of the date January is present: the signal squadrons were present in Mesopotamia from 1916 to 1918. unknown

String-tied in red white and blue stiff wrappers; a group portrait taken from an original photograph mounted to the front cover. Overall very good.</p> <p>Rare. This item served as a commemorative booklet a program for an evening of squadron entertainment and contains a 1-page regimental history of the United States 464th Aero Squadron.</p> <p>The unit was first formed as the 52nd Aero Squadron. Under the leadership of James U. Sockman they arrived in France in late October 1917 and became—according to this publication—“one of the best and most notorious bands of warriors in the American Expeditionary Forces.â€</p> <p>Privately printed in Paris only a small number of copies would have been produced.</p> <p>OCLC: Bangor Public Library only. “Constituted in the United States Army Air Corps as Air Park No. 4 and assigned to the 2d Bombardment Group Kelly Field Texas on 26 June 1922; Concurrently organized with personnel and equipment from the 464th Aero Squadron; Re-designated as the 59th Service Squadron on 25 January 1923.
