In folio cm. 565 x 45 legatura alle armi della citt� di Parigi in p. marocchino rosso con aloni e lievi abrasioni cornice dorata ai piatti con fiori di giglio agli angoli dorso a cordoni con ricca decoraz. e tit. oro dentelles dorate ai risg. tagli sup. dorati. "Prima edizione" di una delle pi� famose piante di Parigi nota come le �Plan de Turgot�. E� una pianta della citt� - a volo d�uccello - di eccezionale formato suddivisa in 20 tavole a doppia pagina inc. in rame e numerate ciascuna di 80 x 515 cm. accompagnata da 1 tavola con l�intera area inc. al tratto che serve da Indice 84 x 64 cm. Il titolo � inciso al centro di due tavole unite 160 x 54 cm. La pianta copre un�area presso a poco corrispondente ai primi undici arrondissements dell�epoca moderna.<br> Di tutte le rappresentazioni cartografiche di Parigi questa realizzata per ordine di Michel Etienne Turgot 1690-1751 capo della municipalit� parigina � la pi� seducente. L'artista-topografo Louis Bretez - che la disegn� dal 1734 al 1736 - non redasse una pianta magari perfetta ma una veduta prospettica che ci consente di attraversare con gli occhi i monumenti le case gli hotels le piazze i giardini i boulevard i sobborghi le chiese i castelli e avere della citt� una immagine parlante. Parigi nei primi decenni del Settecento non possedeva ancora vedute prospettiche che potessero confrontarsi con le vedute urbane realizzate a Venezia Roma e Napoli tra Cinque e Seicento. Parigi giunse in ritardo al suo "ritratto di citt�" ma recuper� splendidamente il terreno. Come tutte le grandi vedute urbane anche questa di Parigi nasce dall' esigenza di celebrare la citt� di glorificarne la bellezza e la prosperit�. Il committente Turgot padre di Anne Robert Jacques ministro di Luigi XVI fu un amministratore illuminato e un amico della Repubblica delle Lettere: la sua fu un' impresa fuori dall'usuale ed ebbe la fortuna di trovare in Bretez membro dell�Accademia Reale di Pittura e Scultura e professore di prospettiva un artista all'altezza delle sue ambizioni. The treatise serves to justify the commercial loaning of money at interest and instigated various refutations by the clergy incensed by its defence of usury.
