Wright Orville Introduction by Dr. Paul E. Garber Federal Aviation Administration
How We Made The First Flight / 1903 Wright Flyer Project
Washington D. C.: NASA / Federal Aviation Administration. Near Fine. 1993. Booklet. B&W Illustrations; This title includes two booklets one large format one small put together by the Office of Public Affairs Aviation Education program. The first booklet is oversized with cardstock covers and a side stapled spine. The second is small format with self covers and stapled spine. Book booklets are in Near Fine to Fine condition and were issued without dust jackets. The larger booklet gives an overview of how the first flight at Kitty Hawk came about. The second smaller booklet gives an account of how the Los Angeles AIAA group recreated a full-scale replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer. Both publications appear to be part of a 75th anniversary celebration of the 1903 flight at Kitty Hawk by the Wright brothers. "The Wright Flyer often retrospectively referred to as Flyer I or 1903 Flyer was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. It was designed and built by the Wright brothers. They flew it four times on December 17 1903 near Kill Devil Hills about four miles south of Kitty Hawk North Carolina US. Today the airplane is exhibited in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D. C. The U. S. Smithsonian Institution describes the aircraft as "the first powered heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled sustained flight with a pilot aboard". The flight of Flyer I marks the beginning of the "pioneer era" of aviation." . NASA / Federal Aviation Administration unknown
