NO margin notes. Includes Ricord's report to Joel Parker Governor of New Jersey on the condition of the state's public schools. A substantial appendix lists reports by the various town superintendents in each of 21 counties from Atlantic to Warren. Since this report was published while the Civil War was still being fought the section on "Schools for Colored Children" may be of some interest: "There is no section of the law nor any decision of the courts that deprives colored children of the advantages of public school instruction

1ère édition de cet ouvrage du vicomte Olivier de ROMANET, archiviste paléographe (1859-1936), en 2 parties: "Etude sur la nature, l'histoire et l'avenir des Provinces de la France" et "Documents pour l'établissement d'une liste critique des Provinces de la France". Exemplaire avec dédicace manuscrite de "M." (initiale) de Romanet, datée 1942 (= descendant ?), "en souvenir du bon vieux temps de Sainte Croix [...]". Ouvrage empreint d'idéologie nationaliste anti-républicaine (à noter que la Nouvelle librairie nationale, dirigée par Georges Valois de 1912 à 1932, était alors la maison d'édition de l'Action française).
