His poetry plays and essays such as the collection Les Temps maudits reflected the struggles of the working class and the horrors of World War I. An active participant in leftist movements he collaborated with communist publications earning respect in progressive French circles. Martinet remained committed to his ideals continuing his literary work until his death in 1944.</p><p>Lev Davidovich Trotsky 1879–1940<br />Lev Trotsky born Lev Bronstein was a prominent Russian revolutionary Marxist theorist and founder of Trotskyism. He played a key role in the 1917 October Revolution organized the Red Army and served as People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs and War. After clashing with Stalin Trotsky was exiled from the USSR in 1929 living in Turkey France Norway and Mexico where he continued writing and criticizing the Stalinist regime. His life ended tragically in 1940 when he was assassinated by an NKVD agent in Mexico City.</p><p>Sergei Mitrofanovich Gorodetsky 1884–1967<br />Sergei Gorodetsky a Russian poet translator and writer was born in St. Petersburg and began as a member of the Symbolist and Acmeist movements. His early collections such as Yar 1907 gained him fame for their lyricism but he later adapted to Soviet ideology producing children's literature and translations. Gorodetsky translated poetry from various Soviet peoples including Armenian and Central Asian and taught at the Literary Institute. He remained active in Soviet cultural life publishing works until his death in Moscow in 1967.</p><p>Ivan Pavlov 1872–1951<br />Ivan Pavlov a Russian artist and engraver was born in 1872 and became renowned as a master of wood engraving during the early Soviet period. Trained in St. Petersburg he produced high-quality engravings for books magazines and other printed materials. His works were distinguished by technical precision and artistic expressiveness contributing to the development of Soviet graphic arts. Pavlov continued working in Leningrad leaving a significant legacy in book illustration until his death in 1951.</p><p>Evgeny Dmitrievich Belukha 1889–1943<br />Evgeny Belukha a Russian-Soviet artist and graphic designer was born in Simferopol and educated in St. Petersburg studying under V. V. Maté and at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Specializing in book design illustrations and decorative arts he created aesthetically expressive works that aligned with the spirit of early Soviet culture. His projects combined functionality with artistic mastery.
