‎Durante la recente battaglia sull'Ebro, le avanguardie franchiste, davanti alla testa di ponte di Fayon, scorgevano un gruppo di miliziani che avanzava verso di loro. Le avanguardie stavano per far fuoco quando s'accorgevano che uno di quegli uomini agitava le braccia in segno di resa. Pochi istanti dopo, costoro erano accolti nelle linee nazionali: si trattava di quaranta feriti, quasi tutti d'aspetto fine, che non volevano più saperne delle file rosse dove erano stati arruolati per forza.‎

Da es in der UdSSR, nur wenige russische Werke zur Judenfrage gibt - es liegt nicht im Interesse der Regierung, dies Problem in Literatur und Presse aufzurollen - sind wir mit Ausnahme der offiziellen Statistik in der Hauptsache auf jiddische Sowjetliteratur und Presse angewiesen, die, soweit es möglich war, zu dieser Broschüre herangezogen wurden. Die hier benutzten, in der Sowjetunion erschienenen Werke in russischer Sprache stammen auch aus jüdischer Feder. Die Tafeln sind dem von jüdischen Studenten zusammengestellten Atlas "Jidn in FSSR.", Moskau-Charkow-Minsk 1930 entnommen und deutsch beschriftet worden. Die Birobidshan-Karte ist speziell für diese Arbeit, im wesentlichen nach dem Sowjetatlas von 1940, gezeichnet worden. " (Vorwort zur 2. Auflage) // " ... Die vorliegende Broschüre setzt sich zur Aufgabe, eine Darstellung der Entwicklung zu geben, die das Judentum der UdSSR, unter der Sowjetherrschaft genommen hat. Leider ist es unmöglich, diese Aufgabe jetzt schon in vollem Umfange zu lösen, besitzen wir doch natürlich nur dasjenige Material - sei es nun statistischen oder auch anderen Charakters - das durch die Zensur der Moskauer Machthaber gegangen ist. Ferner muß berücksichtigt werden, daß in der Sowjetunion die Bevölkerungsstatistik naturgemäß nicht nach dem Rasseprinzip durchgeführt wird: der Kommunismus ist bekanntlich international und bekämpft aufs schärfste die Rassenlehre. Nach einem in der UdSSR, geltenden Gesetz zählt nur der als Jude, Deutscher oder Ukrainer, der sich selbst als solcher ausgibt. Noch mehr: Die meisten jüdischen Kommunisten bezeichnen sich allein schon aus ideologischen Gründen mit der allgemeinen Bezeichnung "Russen", "Ukrainer" usw. und leugnen einfach ihre rassische Herkunft ab- Trotzkij z. B. äußerte einmal jüdischen Bittstellern gegenüber, daß er sich nicht mehr zu den Juden rechne und sie sich an eine andere Adresse wenden möchten. Auch Namen vermögen nicht immer volle Klarheit zu schaffen, zumal so wie auch in Westeuropa bei den Juden sehr häufig nichtjüdische Namen vorkommen. Andererseits haben die Juden in überaus zahlreichen Fällen zur Tarnung gegriffen und sich nach der Revolution echt russische bzw. ukrainische Namen usw. zugelegt. Jahrelang brachte das führende sowjetische Organ, die "Iswestija", spaltenlange Anzeigen solcher Namensänderungen. In der Sowjetunion haben nämlich alle Bürger das Recht, Namen und Vornamen zu ändern. Es bedarf lediglich einer Anmeldung dieser Namensänderung beim Personenstandsregister und einer entsprechenden Anzeige in den "Iswestija". Nach 1937 brauchte die Namensänderung nicht einmal mehr durch die Presse bekanntgegeben zu werden, Zehntausende von Juden, namentlich aber solche, die verantwortliche Posten inne hatten, haben im Laufe der Zeit von dieser Möglichkeit Gebrauch gemacht. ... A very good set still very bright with some minor occasional tears/creases and a faint spot of foxing here and there; overall a VG set. Five broadsides printed in color. 30-1/4" x 21" <br/><br/>These posters were said to bring the viewer closer to God. The images progress much like a graphic novel beginning with two figures at the edge of a cliff on the other side is paradise and at the bottom of the divide is a pit of flames. The male figure tries to build a wooden bridge but it fails and falls into the pit. After he glimpses a heavenly vision of the baby Jesus a red cross springs from the flames to bridge the divide into Paradise. Viewed in sequence they evoke a striking allegory for reaching paradise by accepting Christ into your heart. Christian Witness Press unknown books‎

The images progress much like a graphic novel beginning with a figure running from a tiger along a cliff's edge his face contorted in horror he takes hold of a vine to lower himself from the cliff only to find an alligator with open jaws waiting at the bottom. When he tries to backtrack there is one black rat and one white rat crouched at the top of the vine. The final scene depicts the tiger and alligator turning away as the figure reaches for a glowing red cross on the cliffs edge just out of reach his face calm. Viewed in sequence they evoke a striking allegory the rats possibly signify a retreat from the literal jaws of sin through deceit the sinner turns from the rats at the last minute toward Christ his fate is unknown but his countenance suggests a peaceful resolve. Their book list included over a hundred titles all relating to the United States including classic fiction liberal democratic philosophy and practice and surveys of American history and arts — a sort of Readers' Digest and Saturday Evening Post America with a little bit of heft. The USIA enlisted established Chinese writers resident in Taiwan and Hong Kong to do the translating and in general the books were well received. During the martial law period in Taiwan World Today Press was an important source of news and literature from the outside world and for many immigrants from China proper to Hong Kong it provided an introduction to the West.</p><p>Despite the size and importance of World Today's output institutional holdings are spotty.</p> paperback‎

‎Beijing: People's Fine Arts Press 1977. With you in charge I am at ease" - Mao anoints a successor First edition reproducing the 151 artworks selected for a spring 1977 exhibition held in Beijing to much fanfare. Mao's death in September 1976 precipitated a power struggle the faction led by Hua Guofeng eventually prevailing over a radical clique led by Jiang Qing Mao's wife. The artworks include landscapes oil paintings woodblocks sculptures propaganda posters and other media. Organizers selected works by both leading artists such as Liu Wenxi and grassroots representatives of the masses. The most widely publicized exhibit was With You in Charge I am at Ease Ni ban shi wo fang xin an oil painting by Peng Bin and Jin Shangyi that shows Mao symbolically and fictitiously handing over the reins of power to an attentive Hua Guofeng the latter sporting a Mao badge on his breast. One of a number of paintings on the theme to appear in the immediate aftermath of Hua's taking power the picture was put on the cover of the exhibition catalogue. Other exhibits depict Mao and Zhou Enlai revolutionary models and scenes of a politically and socially harmonious society. The publisher released issues for domestic and international distribution. This example is identified as the international issue in the printed colophon. 151 loose sheets 320 x 380 mm printed one side only and mostly in colour; 8-page contents booklet. All housed in publisher's brown card portfolio front panel with title label lettered in gilt on red background. Each sheet numbered in pencil to correspond with pencilled number in contents booklet. Signs of light handling a little finger-soiling and colour offsetting portfolio with short split along one fold: a very good copy indeed. unknown‎
