Extreme Islam: anti-American propaganda of Muslim fundamentalism
A book about Muslim fundamentalists and anti-American terrorism could hardly be timelier. This lively, somewhat scattershot collection of let-'em-speak-for-themselves selections from disparate sources contains a wide spectrum of perspectives on Islam. Outstanding (which is not to say good) entries include a manifesto from TempleMountFaithfull.org, and an excerpt from the 1963 book Occidentosis (i.e., "A plague from the West"). Of the former, let it be indicative that it emanates from "the website for all Zionists and Zionist Christians who wish to demolish [the] Dome of the Rock," thereby hastening Armageddon. The latter considers the "effete" and "effeminate" qualities of the "occidentotic" person, consumed by fear and vain concerns. Poems, polemics, and impassioned pleas are all here, and the swatch of color illustrations decorates nicely. The book throughout shows signs--bad grammar, typos, blind references--of being hurried into print in the wake of 9-11. In 1973, the Weather Underground Organization established a printing operation called the Red Dragon Print Collective, a venture which Braley helped run. Operating out of a soundproof apartment, the print collective was a formative part of the Weather Underground Organization for its final three years. The Red Dragon Print Collective was responsible for producing the Weather Underground Organization's book Prairie Fire. All printing, binding, and collating of materials was done by the members themselves. As a precaution, work was done wearing gloves to ensure that no fingerprints would be left.

Design for military
This should have been an interesting book for graphic designers and anyone who wants to design print without having to worry about being trendy. The military require straightforward instruction books, forms, logos and explanatory typography printed on a variety of surfaces to be instantly understandable. The book though, from a Japanese publisher, is rich mixture of printed material that appears to have no rhyme or reason as the pages are turned. Each spread has a different theme explained in short Japanese text with most of the examples shown from the US military but there are items from Japan, Germany, Russia and Vietnam. For example, pages twenty-six and seven have nine illustrations about digging fox-holes (from 1944) twenty-eight and nine: two cutaways of part of a jet engine; thirty and thirty-one: six illustrations about escaping from a ditched plane; thirty-two and three: two blow-ups of the graphics on a bandage pack; thirty-four and five: a NASA Project Gemini spaceship control panel. — Testi: Kesaharu Imai. pagg. 192; COL e BN; rileg. brossura. Heartfield Versus Hitler
John Heartfield (1891, Berlin - 1968) is the anglicized name of the German photomontage artist Helmut Herzfeld. He chose to call himself Heartfield in 1916, to criticize the rabid nationalism and anti-British sentiment prevalent in Germany during World War I.His photomontages satirising Adolf Hitler and the Nazis often subverted Nazi symbols such as the swastika in order to undermine their propaganda message. One of his more famous pieces, made in 1935 entitled Hurrah, die Butter ist Alle! (English: Hurray, the butter is gone!) was published on the frontpage of the AIZ in 1935. A parody of the aesthetics of propaganda, the photomontage shows a family at a kitchen table, where a nearby portrait of Hitler hangs and the wallpaper is emblazoned with swastikas. The family - mother, father, old woman, young man, baby, and dog - are attempting to eat pieces of metal, such as chains, bicycle handlebars, and rifles. Below, the title is written in large letters, in addition to a quote by Hermann Göring during food shortage. Translated, the quote reads: "Iron has always made a nation strong, butter and lard have only made the people fat".In 1918 Heartfield joined the Berlin Dada club and the Communist Party of Germany.He would turn out to be highly active in the Dada movement, organizing the First International Dada Fair in Berlin in 1920. In 1919, he was dismissed from the Reichswehr film service on account of his support for the strike that followed the assassination of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. With George Grosz, he founded Die Pleite, a satirical magazine. After meeting Bertolt Brecht in 1924, who was to have an influence on his art, Heartfield developed photomontage into a form of political and artistic expression. He worked for two communist publications: the daily Die Rote Fahne and the weekly Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung (AIZ), the latter of which published the works for which Heartfield is best remembered. — Testi: Willett JOhn. Perfino il titolo è stato bonditescamente rubato a una bella trilogia di Vasco Pratolini.
