Fine. - Over 57 words typed in brown ink on Lady Bird Johnson's 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch cream personal Stonewall Texas stationery illustrated with a vignette of her home in brown at center top. Lady Bird regrets that she can't attend Jean Dalrymple's picnic scheduled for September 6th "An afternoon in the beautiful Connecticut countryside in your company sounds idyllic and I am so disappointed that I will be hemmed in here by other commitments". Signed "Lady Bird" in brown ink. Folded for mailing else fine.</p><p>As the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson Lady Bird Johnson 1912-2007 was First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Notably well-educated for a woman of her time she proved a capable manager and a shrewd investor. After marrying Lyndon B. Johnson in 1934 she used a modest inheritance to bankroll his congressional campaign and then ran his office while he served in the Navy. Her purchase of a television station made the couple millionaires. As First Lady she broke new ground by interacting directly with Congress employing her own press secretary and making a solo electioneering tour. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal the highest U.S. civilian honors.</p><p>The recipient Jean Dalrymple 1902-1998 was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville appearing with James Cagney and Carey Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski Mary Martin Jos Iturbi Andre Kostalanetz Nathan Milstein and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943 serving as a board member and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951 Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.</p> Stonewall, Texas, August 25, 1987.

OCLC locates a single copy for 1844 at Harvard bound together with examples from 1843 and 1845. Offered with: Abstract of the Returns . for 1835 similar in size and format to the above; worn and defective lacking the lower right quadrant about 25%. This year is not among those recorded in OCLC. Albany:: The University of the State of New York 1951. A solid copy -- square and reasonably tight. Bound in the original blue cloth lettered in gold on the spine. Laid-in are two typed letters signed by the compiler Milton W. Hamilton to George H. Crosbie editor of THE AUTOGRAPH COLLECTOR'S JOURNAL. Both discuss an article that Hamilton was writing about a Sir William Johnson letter. The article was scheduled to be published in the April 1952 issue of Crosbie's magazine. Sir William Johnson 1715-1774 was the superintendent of Indian affairs for British America. See DAB Vol V pp. 124-128. This volume of Johnson's papers covers the period September 1758 through December 1763 including the campaigns and diplomacy of the French and Indian War Pontiac's conspiracy settlement of the peace Johnson's wise policies and importance in placating and controlling the Indian tribes especially the Six Nations of Iroquois. It parallels Volume III and a part of Volume IV of the Johnson Papers supplementing and filling out the picture of those years. Illustrated with 12 plates. This volume is also of interest to numismatists for its information on the rare Montreal Medals -- awarded in the late Spring and Summer 1761 by Johnson to 182 Native Americans who remained loyal to him and to the British army throughout the Montreal campaign of 1760. According to a Mystery House advertisement for The Albatross Murders Inigo Jones is the pseudonym of a "writer of established literary reputation one of whose short stories is included in Fifty Best Stories of the Last 25 Years edited by Edward J. Hays Dear friend: It gives me pleasure to present you this copy of "The Power of Truth" with my best wishes for your success and happiness. Yours sincerely Heber J. Grant". Grant had purchased the copyright and printing plates for this book from Jordan's widow and in conjunction with the Deseret Book Co. he had the book re-published in 1935 as the 8th edition. Will H. Hays managed Warren G. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America MPPDA which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. A perhaps unsurprising Association undoubtedly the best Association and Presentation Copy available ! Book is Near Fine spine a bit faded. No publication date circa 1935-1939. .
