‎Paris, Librairie Hachette, 1916 ; cartonnage rouge-orangé double in-8 du type "à un éléphant", dos type F, dit "au phare", deuxième plat de type "R", toutes tranches dorées ; [8], 368 pp. et six hors-texte en noir et blanc.‎

‎Dernière édition en cartonnage polychrome ; la maison d'Edition Hachette a racheté les éditions Hetzel en juillet 1914 et vont essayer de rentabiliser au maximum l'énorme stock, mais très vite, ils vont utiliser un papier moins beau, des gravures en noir et blanc à la place de gravures coloriées comme c'est le cas ici, etc. Le cartonnage est très trais et en très bel état (malgré une petite déchirure sans perte à une planche, soigneusement restaurée), ainsi que les gardes, et ce "nouveau" papier n'a pas de rousseurs, l'intérieur est donc impeccable. Avec tous ces critères, cet exemplaire est une sorte de "curiosité".‎

Sein Weg führt ihn über den Ural und quer durch das unwegsame Sibirien. Das Gebiet ist von aufständischen Tataren besetzt, und Strogoff muß zahllose kämpfe und Gefahren bestehen. Schließlich aber wird er von seinen Feinden erkannt und gefangengenommen. Sein Schicksal ist furchtbar, und Iwan Ogareff, der Verräter, triumphiert. ‎Erste Ausgabe der relativ seltenen Veröffentlichung. * Volckhausen (1822 Haustenbeck -1899 Düsseldorf) war Lehrer, Journalist und Schriftsteller. Im Zuge der Märzrevolution war er ab 1848 in Detmold Mitherausgeber der Zeitung "Wage" und Mitbegründer des Detmolder Volksverein. Verbreitet wurden Schriften von Feuerbach, David Friedrich Strauß und Herwegh. Später gab er in Hamburg den "Kompaß" heraus und kam schließlich zur Frankfurter Zeitung. Vorliegender Band wohl Teil einer neunbändigen Geschichte des russischen Hofes. Das KVK verzeichnet Exemplare der Reihe in mehreren Bibliotheken mit Erscheinungsdaten zwischen 1858 und 1860, Verlagsort Hamburg, z.T. Hoffmann und Campe. In einigen Bibliotheken wird aber auch die vorliegende Ausgabe mit dem Erscheinungsjahr 1858 verzeichnet. Ich denke, daß bei vorliegendem Exemplar der Buchblock der alten Ausgabe genommen und er mit neuem Umschlag und neuem Titelblatt versehen wurde. Papier und Design deuten eher auf ein 1890er Jahr.‎
