Randolph Scott was a noted Hollywood actor of the Golden Age best remembered for a series of sophisticated westerns. Randolph Scott has recently received a great deal of attention with the release and restoration of Seven Men from Now 1956 directed by Budd Boetticher and produced by John Wayne which has been unavailable for decades and the restoration and release on DVD of Ride the High Country 1962 directed by Sam Peckinpah both of which are considered among the great classics of western film. Nixon was an admirer of Scott’s films and he and Scott were long time friends. Nixon invited Scott to the White House to visit. When the Apollo Eleven astronauts first landed on the moon Scott was Nixon’s guest at the dinner Nixon held in Los Angeles to honor the astronauts return. An excellent association copy. Nixon, Richard
Richard Nixon Signed Card.
January 9 1993. Rare original card celebrating President Richard Nixon's 80th birthday. A card depicting him with his four grandchildren at Woodcliff Lake in New Jersey: Melanie Eisenhower Christopher Cox Jennie Eisenhower and Alex Eisenhower. Boldly signed by Richard Nixon to the bottom right in black felt tip. In fine condition. The piece measures 7 inches by 5 inches. Richard Milhous Nixon 1913–1994 the thirty-seventh President of the United States remains one of the most complex and consequential figures in modern American political history — a man of formidable intellect and strategic vision whose presidency produced genuine achievements of the first order alongside one of the most catastrophic failures of political judgment the office has ever witnessed. Born in Yorba Linda California and educated at Whittier College and Duke University School of Law Nixon served as a Naval officer in the Pacific rose through the House and Senate on the strength of his aggressive anti-communist credentials and served two terms as Eisenhower's Vice President before losing narrowly to Kennedy in 1960 and engineering one of the most remarkable political comebacks in American history with his election to the presidency in 1968. His foreign policy record was substantial — the opening of China détente with the Soviet Union the withdrawal from Vietnam and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency among his lasting contributions — but everything was ultimately consumed by Watergate the cover-up of a burglary at Democratic National Committee headquarters that led to his resignation on August 9 1974 the only presidential resignation in American history. Pardoned by Gerald Ford Nixon spent his final two decades writing prolifically on foreign policy and partially rehabilitating his public standing. He died in April 1994 at the age of eighty-one and his funeral was attended by all five living former presidents — a gesture of institutional respect for a man whose gifts and flaws were each in their different ways outsized. unknown

Nixon, Richard M and Gerald Ford
Richard Nixon and Gerald R. Ford Signed Presidential Proclamation of Pardon.
Typescript reproduction of the final paragraphs of Ford's 1974 Proclamation of Pardon granting a full and unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon his predecessor for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president. One page typescript. Signed and dated by Gerald Ford "Gerald Ford 11/5/79" and Richard Nixon. Accompanied by two glossy photographs signed by Ford. In fine condition. The signed pardon measures 7.5 by 5.5 inches. The photographs measure 8 inches by 10 inches. Exceptionally rare. Gerald Ford issued Proclamation 4311 on September 8 1974 granting a full and unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon his predecessor for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president. In particular the pardon covered Nixon's actions during the Watergate scandal. In a televised broadcast to the nation Ford who had succeeded to the presidency upon Nixon's resignation explained that he felt the pardon was in the best interests of the country and that the Nixon family's situation was "a tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on and on and on or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that and if I can I must." unknown

SEIZE THE MOMENT: AMERICA'S CHALLENGE IN A ONE-SUPERPOWER WORLD SIGNED
New York: Simon and Schuster 1992. First Edition First Printing. Hardcover. Octavo 322 pages. In Very Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Spine white with blue lettering; dust jacket protected by a mylar cover; price uncut "$25.00". Light shelf wear. Signed flat by Nixon to the half-title page. With a one page Typed Note Signed by Nixon inscribed to Thomas Hughes. Dated January 2 1991 it reads in part: "I thought you might be interested in seeing some unconventional wisdom on foreign and domestic issues." With one fold crease. Nixon used this personalized form letter for copies he sent to those he was close to. Shelved in Case 1 1/2. Thomas Hughes served as the Director of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research Now known as the Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research from April 28 1963 through August 25 1969 serving under Kennedy and Johnson and resigning under Nixon. He went on to serve as president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace from 1971-1991. Originally joining Washington as legislative counsel to Senator Hubert Humphrey in 1955 he worked with then Vice President Humphrey to compose a memorandum from Humphrey to President Johnson warning about the negative consequences of escalation and intensification of the war in Vietnam.<br /> <br /> From the memorandum dated Washington February 17 1965: "SUBJECT Vietnam. I would like to share with you my views on the political consequences of certain courses of action that have been proposed in regard to U.S. policy in Southeast Asia. I refer both to the domestic political consequences here in the United States and to the international political consequences."<br /> <br /> "In 1968 with an eye to history Hughes commissioned an independent "self-study" to evaluate the INR's intelligence efforts during the Vietnam War. Hughes was unaware at the time of the similar but more elaborate project to study the Pentagon's decisionmaking on Vietnam commissioned by Defense Secretary McNamara. Time magazine in 1971 mentioned the INR study and dubbed it the State Department's version of the Pentagon Papers. But Hughes's study remained classified until 2004.Hughes upon the publication of the State Department study of the INR and Vietnam assessed his and his bureau's role in these terms: ".we have the ironic satisfaction of knowing that most of our forecasts have been vindicated by history. We can only lament that while we were heeded we were unable to persuade sway or prevail when it came to the ultimate decisions." Smith Bruce L. R and Brookings Institution Press. 2021. Nixon, Richard
Setting the Course: The First Year; Major Policy Statements by President Richard Nixon
New York: Funk & Wagnalls 1970. First Edition First Printing. Cloth. Near fine/very good. First edition of Setting the Course: The First Year Major Policy Statements by President Richard Nixon with a White House TLS and bookplate inscribed to the Hon. John D.J. Moore United States Ambassador to Ireland. Octavo xix 500pp. Blue cloth title in gilt on spine. Solid text block appears mostly unread. In the publisher's price clipped dust jacket light chipping at top edge of spine shelf wear a very good example. White House bookplate hand-signed by President Richard Nixon affixed to the front free endpaper. Includes additional TLS on White House stationery signed by President Nixon. Both signatures with light finger smudge. An excellent association copy. Ambassador John D.J. Moore 1910-1988 was the longest serving American ambassador to Ireland in history serving from 1969-1975. Moore famously accompanied Vice President Richard Nixon to South America in 1958 and the Soviet Union in 1959. Both trips produced international headlines with Nixon's limousine being attacked in Caracas Venezuela May 13 1958 and a conversation between Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev over the merits of capitalism being dubbed the Kitchen Debate July 24 1959.
