Die Februark�mpfe 1934 die zum Verbot der Sozialdemokratischen Partei f�hrten veranla�ten Leichter zur Emigration. Er gr�ndete in Z�rich einen Pressedienst um die Welt �ber die Situation in �sterreich zu informieren. 1940 floh er vor der auf Paris vorr�ckenden Wehrmacht nach Montauban in S�dfrankreich und von dort nach New York. Nach dem Krieg kehrte er f�r ein Jahr zur�ck nach Wien wo er u. a. f�r die Arbeiterkammer Wien arbeitete und die Zeitschrift Arbeit und Wirtschaft wiederaufbaute. Als f�hrender Proponent der 'Resolution der Vierundvierzig' die beim Parteitag der SP� 1947 eine Linkswende der Partei initiieren sollte geriet er nach Ablehnung dieser Resolution ins politische Abseits und kehrte 1948 von der Politik der SP� entt�uscht nach New York zur�ck.
